Loyal is developing drugs intended to extend dog lifespan and healthspan. Loyal was founded in October 2019 and currently has ~35 team members. We aim to build a consumer-friendly brand around a series of deeply technical products - a consumer-first pharmaceutical company. Loyal is backed by top deep tech & consumer investors and is based in San Francisco, CA. Loyal was founded and is run by a female, first-gen CEO.
About the role and you
You will be the first Product Manager at Loyal! You will be responsible for bringing a product and customer-first mindset to Loyal. If you excel, you will have the opportunity to build a team of PMs as we go, including forging the strategy for integrating PMs into standard drug product commercialization.
In the short term, you will lead the strategy and execution of two early non-drug products, working closely with the technical teams to determine if, when, and how to bring these products to market.
We are looking for someone who will teach us, engineers and scientists, what Product Management excellence looks like. The ideal candidate will be confident, a great communicator, and malleable as you adapt tech frameworks to a biotech product.
You would:
- Spend time talking to Pet Parents, representing them at the table
- With the technical team, help design and execute product MVPs
- Coordinate across various teams - for example, one product may touch groups including regulatory, research & development, clinical operations, clinical development, product manufacturing, supply chain
- Own end-to-end product lifecycle
- Work on products that are physical (e.g., drugs) and software
We are looking for:
- At least 5 years of product management experience in a D2C or physical product
- Empathy for the pet parent
- Previous experience in UX design and discovery work
- Fast execution, confidence, steadfastness
- Startup savvy
- Experience working alongside technical groups (non-biological okay)
- Experience bringing multiple products to consumers
- Strong, clear, concise written and verbal communication skills
Reasons you may not like this role:
- You probably do not have a bio background - you will need to build up technical context to be able to excel in this role
- You will not have the resources that you are probably used to available to you for a while
- You will be educating a team that has largely never worked with PMs on the value of PMs
- You will work on many different types of products. No one product is core to Loyal (yet) - so you may spend a lot of time on a product that eventually gets killed.
Our Values
The Fundamentality of Health | Good health is critical to every other human (and animal!) experience. We believe health is a fundamental right and are dedicating our lives to maximizing health and developing better medicines for the worst diseases.
Truth Seeking & Feedback Loops | Uniquely in biology, there is a predetermined truth of whether a specific drug will work or not — we just have to catch up with biology! We seek out this truth and do not shy away from inconvenient truths. This holds for personal development too: we are always searching for feedback loops and embody a perpetual growth mindset.
Morality & Empathy | We are developing medicines that may one day be given to a living animal, medicines that if designed badly could hurt that animal instead of help. This is a huge responsibility and should be respected as such. Our work needs to adhere to the strictest moral code and always integrate empathy for the patient.
Transparency | We believe full transparency in thoughts, opinions, intentions, and actions (both good ones and mistakes) is a better way to build a business and work together.
Kindness | Great business(wo)men do not need to be ruthless — you can execute excellently with kindness.
Dog gifs | We love them.
