Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

The Growth org plays a central role in advancing Square’s ecosystem strategy, with a particular focus on discovery, onboarding, and activation. We build products and platforms that support sellers at every step in their Square journey; this includes engaging marketing pages, intelligent onboarding flows, insightful dashboards, and more — all with the goal of making it frictionless for sellers to get started and grow their business with Square.

As a Product Lead on the Growth team, reporting to the Head of Product, Growth, you will guide important Engineering, Machine Learning and Data Science projects from concept through launch, experimentation, and iteration. Your product portfolio will focus on improving product onboarding or engagement within Square’s ecosystem.

You will lead an accomplished team of Product Managers to build remarkable products that drive outsized impact in helping sellers realize value from Square’s ecosystem, and be responsible for a large portion of Square’s overall go-to-market.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Direct and utilize user research, data analysis, and market research to identify high priority seller and business opportunity areas

  • Develop product strategies and roadmaps to address seller needs and drive business growth.

  • Drive investment decisions within your team, and make and justify annual recommendations on investment-level for your product area

  • Lead and manage a team of product managers and program/project managers; make principled hiring decisions which result in an effective team

  • Validate whether product strategies will have the intended impact with a combination of qualitative user research and quantitative experimentation.

  • Anticipate non-obvious risks and resolve highly complex issues.

  • Gain agreement from executives and other senior team leaders

  • Edit project requirements, clarify implementation details, and make strategic tradeoff decisions as needed.

  • Communicate and drive alignment on strategies and roadmaps within your team and with stakeholder teams at Square.

Required qualifications

  • 8+ years of product management experience or equivalent, including 2+ years managing product managers

  • A strong sense of user empathy and interest in supporting independent businesses.

  • Strong design and product sensibilities

  • Experience developing product strategies and breaking them down into clearly scoped roadmaps and requirements.

  • Experience testing and launching products at scale with a high bar for experimental rigor.

  • Experience applying data to drive personalized experiences at scale

  • Ability to understand technical systems and how they operate, not necessarily in an engineering capacity, but enough to spot potential issues and make trade off decisions.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clarity from ambiguity and distill complex issues into easy to understand narratives.

  • Demonstrated excellence in using principled decision making to manage diverse stakeholders, including peers and executive leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing large and complex systems at scale.

  • Experience managing reporting or analytics products.
