What We Do

The Mapbox for EV team is developing a comprehensive solution for electric vehicles, focusing on enhancing the driving experience. This includes optimized route planning based on precise battery range predictions, easy identification of ideal charging points, and a seamless, direct payment system accessible through the vehicle's infotainment or mobile apps. Aimed at tackling challenges like range anxiety and the hassle of using multiple charging apps, Mapbox for EV integrates efficient trip planning with real-time charging station data and a unified payment system. It's designed to streamline the EV driving experience, is compatible with existing Mapbox services, and can be integrated into various in-car or mobile applications via Mapbox cloud APIs. What You'll Do

We are seeking a highly motivated Product Manager III to join our EV team and be at the forefront of Mapbox’s expansion into the EV charging sector. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and execute a comprehensive product strategy for our EV charging cloud services targeting Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Charge Point Operators (CPOs), and Mobility Operators. 

As the Product Manager III, EV Platform, you can expect to:

  • Define and implement the product strategy and roadmap for the EV charging cloud services, aligning with Mapbox’s vision and market needs.
  • Develop a robust business case to support product decisions and investments, including financial flows and ROI analysis.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to translate product strategy into detailed specifications and high-quality, innovative solutions.
  • Foster partnerships with CPOs to establish a robust EV charging roaming network utilizing the Open Charge Point Interface (OCPI) protocol.
  • Implement ISO-15118 standard for seamless plug and charge capabilities, ensuring a superior user experience.
  • Oversee the development of a comprehensive suite of APIs for various stakeholders, including certificate authority and provisioning services.
  • Manage certificate pools such as contract, provisioning, and root certificates, ensuring high security and reliability.
  • Ensure compatibility with OPCP protocol and other industry standards.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams, including engineering, sales, marketing, and support, to ensure a successful product launch and market adoption.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive landscape to adapt product strategy accordingly.

What We Believe are Important Traits for This Role

  • 8-10 years as a Product Manager: You have seen multiple products through a full lifecycle of discovery, development, launch, and adoption in the Automotive and/or EV sector. 
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Technical Background: You have prior experience as a Software Engineer developing APIs and cloud services.
  • Automotive: You possess a strong understanding of EV charging standards such as OCPI and ISO-15118.
  • Go-to-market (GTM): You have taken your product to market, owning the pricing and packaging.
  • Customer focus: You care deeply about your CPO and OEM customers and their problems, and you work tirelessly to innovate for them.
  • An analytical approach: You have strong SQL skills and use data to properly evaluate the success or failure of your product and drive key learnings.
  • Prioritization: You have a clear rationale behind your tradeoffs and strive to deliver immediate/tangible value to customers.
  • Collaboration: You have experience bringing together and leading a wide range of stakeholders in engineering, sales, design, marketing, legal, finance, etc. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication: You can talk and write concisely about complex ideas to a wide audience (e.g., FAQs and business cases for your roadmap).

Nice to Have Traits for This Role

  • Security: Experience developing cryptographic systems, managing Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), certificate authorities, and Single Sign-On (SSO) architectures.

Our annual base compensation for this role ranges from $167,450 - $226,550 for most US locations and 5% to 10% higher for US locations with a higher cost of labor. Job level and actual compensation will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process (including skills and prior relevant experience, potential impact, and scope of role), market demands, and specific work location.
