Mapbox is the leading real-time location platform for a new generation of location-aware businesses. Mapbox is the only platform that equips organizations with the full set of tools to power the navigation of people, packages, and vehicles everywhere. More than 3.9 million registered developers have chosen Mapbox because of the platform’s flexibility, security, and privacy compliance. Organizations use Mapbox applications, data, SDKs, and APIs to create customized and immersive experiences that delight their customers.

What We Do

The Platform team at Mapbox is obsessed with providing our engineers with the best-in-class tooling for building, deploying, and operating software services at scale.

The team is organized into two groups, Data Platform (Ingestion and Data Processing & Warehousing) and Cloud Platform (Orchestration, AWS Governance, and API Infrastructure), supporting 300+ Mapbox Engineers located in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Finland, Japan, Poland, and Minsk.

Data Platform provides the foundational infrastructure, products and tools for data applications that Mapbox builds on to deliver external customer-facing products and services. Cloud Platform ensures seamless Continuous Integration and Delivery, and reliable API Infrastructure encompassing core networking and compute resources.

We are distributed across the US, Canada, and Finland. Outside of the Helsinki office, we work remotely, and mostly async. We believe in iterative process experimentation, quarterly team feedback surveys, and are proud of our collaborative team environment that fosters growth and delivery at scale.

What You'll Do

The Platform team is evolving the foundational tools, services, infrastructure, and platforms that handle billions of requests every day. These requests are sent from the products Mapbox Engineers built and used to power their products – Navigation SDK, MapGPT, Traffic Data, GL JS, Search, and more – used by 700M monthly users.

As our curious and data-driven Platform Product Manager II, you'll join at the right time to lead the vision, roadmap, and execution of the next set of initiatives that will make this happen. Your work, in partnership with the Platform Engineers, will enable the team to raise the bar on scale and efficiency, unlock new business and product opportunities for Mapbox and our customers, and enable high-velocity development for our engineers.

More specifically, in this role you can expect to:

  • Manage Platform roadmap: Maintain a working roadmap for the product platform.
  • Manage Platform releases: Work with leadership and constituents to determine scope of platform releases, coordinating with platform engineering team, and product teams to ensure product releases meet expectations.
  • Define features: (including but not limited to tools, frameworks, libraries) for customers and developers with acute focus on scale, reliability, and cost.
  • Lead the AWS Multi-Account migration project: This project encompasses every service at Mapbox, spanning ~50 engineering teams, spanning the next several years.
  • Influence data governance, privacy and security policies Mapbox-wide.
  • Document your work and decision-making processes, and lead presentations and discussions in a way that is easy for others to understand.
  • Uphold a culture of collaboration, transparency, creativity, inclusion, and data-driven decisions.
