When applying, please mention you found this role on WeLoveProduct - it helps Datadog track where great candidates come from 🙌

At Datadog, we're on a mission to build the best platform in the world for engineers to understand and scale their systems, applications, and teams. We operate at high scale—trillions of data points per day—allowing for seamless collaboration and problem-solving among Dev, Ops and Security teams globally for tens of thousands of companies. Our engineering culture values pragmatism, honesty, and simplicity to solve hard problems the right way.

Datadog's Application Performance Monitoring (APM) provides deep visibility into the health, performance, and lifecycle of modern distributed applications, tracing requests from end-user devices (web and mobile) through to backend services. Our goal is to help customers detect root causes faster, optimize application performance, and improve resource efficiency at scale.

As a Product Manager for APM Service Modeling, you’ll own the definition, representation, and semantics of services within the APM suite products. You’ll drive consistency by standardizing how services are discovered, named, and modeled, whether instrumented through Datadog-native tooling or OpenTelemetry (OTel). You’ll also explore opportunities to leverage AI to enhance the service onboarding experience, such as suggesting default service names, detecting misconfigured or duplicate services, and proactively guiding users to resolve issues.

This role is highly cross-functional and strategic. You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering, and Go-to-Market teams to shape how Datadog customers understand and interact with their services.

What You’ll Do:

  • Define and evolve service representation in APM, including inferred services, tagging, schema semantics, and renaming capabilities
  • Drive clear and consistent service modeling across Datadog and OTel instrumentation, ensuring strong support for OTel semantics
  • Establish best practices and guidelines for service naming and discovery at the time of instrumentation
  • Collaborate with ML and platform teams to enable AI-powered capabilities, such as automatic service grouping, correlation, anomaly detection, and root cause analysis, based on accurate service modeling
  • Collaborate with other product teams to improve cross-product service correlation and enable faster root cause analysis
  • Develop a deep understanding of APM customer needs, use cases, and the competitive landscape
  • Partner with marketing, sales, support, and customer success to shape and execute go-to-market strategies for new APM features

Who You Are:

  • You have 3+ years of experience as a Product Manager, preferably in observability, distributed systems, or platform infrastructure
  • You have a technical background (ideally 2+ years as a Software Engineer or equivalent), with a solid understanding of service architectures and how modern applications are instrumented and monitored
  • You are a clear communicator, able to engage effectively with engineers, cross-functional partners, and leadership
  • You care deeply about customer experience, and hold a high bar for clarity, consistency, and quality in your product
  • You’re excited to work in a high-growth, fast-paced environment, building foundational systems and scaling product capabilities that impact thousands of users
