GitHub powers the software development community. Since 2008, our platform has brought people together to collaborate on code, share ideas, and solve problems to build the future. As the largest host of open source software, GitHub is proud to be the place that open source communities like Swift, React, Kubernetes, and Node.js call home. We've enabled over 23 million developers and thousands of businesses around the world to build over 71 million software projects. From NASA using GitHub to put a rover on Mars to Mailchimp working to improve email, exciting new things happen every day on our platform.

The Growth team is responsible for helping more people succeed with GitHub and become happy customers. We’re looking for a Product Manager who will help fuel the growth of our self-serve business. You’ll be part of the growth team collaborating with people from engineering, marketing, customer success, and design. The Growth discipline blends product, marketing, data science, and experimentation. Everything you work on will have a direct and measurable impact on GitHub’s business metrics and trajectory.

If you are motivated by solving customer pain points, moving metrics, and seeing the impact of your work on the business in weeks, and if you love questioning assumptions and designing experiments to validate them, then this could be a perfect opportunity for you!

Responsibilities:

  • Leverage data to identify growth opportunities and propose new experiments
  • Iterate based on qualitative and quantitative learnings
  • Work cross-functionally with product and growth engineering partners to ensure remarkable user experiences
  • Communicate persuasively with peers and stakeholders to enable cooperation and creative thinking
  • Do all this with a growth mindset; staying curious, humble, and open-minded to keep learning every day and inspire others to do the same

Additionally, you’ll provide input and feedback that helps influence the direction of design in other areas of GitHub.

Is this position remote?

GitHub is a remote-friendly organization and product design is no exception. We encourage applicants to apply who are comfortable working from wherever there is electricity, good wifi, and your preferred geography. Afraid of getting lonely at home? We can help by providing a coworking space benefit in your city. If you prefer coming into an office, we also have one of those (a very nice one, in fact) in the SOMA neighborhood of San Francisco.

We welcome product designers of all experience levels to apply for this position.

Qualifications:

  • You are passionate about growth
  • You understand GitHub’s products and often wonder how particular areas could be maximized
  • You are user-centered and impact-driven. You use data to challenge intuitions and make decisions
  • You value research as a foundational qualitative insights component and like going deep into a particular problem space
  • You are able to sketch ideas and prototypes with tools like Figma or any design tool of your choice to help tell your story and help the team understand your thinking
  • You are data-savvy and able to draw hypotheses from qualitative and quantitative data
  • You're comfortable giving and receiving feedback, and can explain the reasoning behind your opinions

Bonus points if...

  • You are comfortable using SQL, Python, or Git
  • You’ve used GitHub before or are familiar with modern developer workflows
