Purpose of the Role:

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to progress their product career. You will take on some significant challenges and help accelerate our business as we continue to grow in global markets for both B2C and B2B. If you are passionate about product management and are looking for an opportunity to work with seasoned leaders in an ambitious, market-leading tech organisation, then this opportunity is for you!

Trainline’s Platform One supports all our customer propositions across B2C, Branded Business Travel, B2B Distribution, TOC Partner Solutions and Supply Integrations, on multiple channels including web, app, external APIs, and agent tooling for both in-house customer support and external B2B customers.

Trainline is undertaking an ambitious programme of works to transform our infrastructure technology and engineering tooling to enable our engineering organisation to improve our efficiency, increase speed to market, and ultimately deliver more value to our customers and the business.  To do this we will move to a truly cloud native platform, maximising our use of AWS, and be supported by best-in-class engineering tooling.

The role will be responsible for:

• Understanding our engineering productivity pain-points, and guiding our developer experience roadmap to build out our cloud native infrastructure and harmonise our tooling and processes
• Drive developer tools and practices to support the needs of our teams across multiple geographic locations
• Research & explore tools and practices used across the industry to improve engineering productivity
• Work across our engineering and product organisation to prioritise, communicate and evangelise adoption of the new cloud native infrastructure and tooling

This role leads day to day prioritisation for 2 engineering infrastructure & tooling squads, but will drive the roadmap and adoption through collaboration with our 350+ engineering community – as well as collaborating closely with SRE, Security, Database Engineering and core infrastructure teams. Key partnerships in this role are with Director of Architecture, Principal Engineers, Engineering Managers and Team Leads in the squads.

The Product Manager will work with teams to set OKRs and prioritise delivery outcomes for this area to achieve overall company goals. It is also imperative to have strong relationships with other Product counterparts across the organisation - helping them or their teams to achieve their goals without compromising quality, performance or stability.

Responsibilities of the Role:

• Know the competitive landscape, global industry trends and company strategy, owning the short, medium and long-term roadmap for one or more squads
• Generate ideas for improvements taking problems, resolving ambiguity and comprehensively exploring options whilst championing an outcome driven approach
• Drive squads’ prioritisation, making trade-offs and striking a good balance of delivering new features, platform improvements, reporting and monitoring capabilities
• Triangulate multiple signals using data tools to generate insights, communicate hypotheses to wider audience and share learnings from both successes and failures
• Lead/participate in Agile ceremonies, with responsibility for a high standard of meaningful documentation and process
• Be the customer advocate; evaluate and understand customer insights and align to the work your team are delivering to ensure you are meeting the end user needs
• Concise and effective communication with team providing context and strategy
• Develop relationships to regularly engage, communicate, and influence peers and business partners through clear articulation of the “why”, through both written and verbal presentation
• Execute with limited direction tracking squad priorities and cross team dependencies, coordinating with partners across the business using data and insights to make timely decisions when needed
• Build credibility by striving to understand technology decisions and implications, and build knowledge of domain
• React to operational issues, either customer or technical, and prioritise remedial action as appropriate to avoid poor customer experience or internal inefficiency
• Be an effective member of the squad leadership with Engineering and Architecture or Business partners making sure squads are in a happy and functional place

Required Knowledge and Experience:

• 2~3 years of experience in a Technical Product Management role in a tech business, building/launching technical products in cloud, security, scalability

• Led a full-stack team or led delivery co-ordination across multiple teams
• Evidence of customer centric thinking through insights, data and experimentation
• Knowledge and experience of working with Agile frameworks, writing user stories, setting sprint goals and collaborating with teams on acceptance criteria
