About the role

Betterment for Advisors is a platform that brings Betterment’s custodial and portfolio management technology to independent financial advisors. As part of the Betterment for Advisors team, you’ll be responsible for executing on a roadmap that seeks to continuously deliver value to advisors, and their clients, through features that help them more efficiently run their businesses.

As a Product Manager, your role will balance executional product management skills with a growth-oriented perspective, helping to enable business growth and advisor engagement through advisor-centric product development. In this practice of product management, we strive to experiment, take calculated risks, and steer our broader product toward growth. This role will involve both front-end and back-end feature development. You will be expected to lead both flashy new advisor-facing launches as well as technical platform upgrades that involve getting ‘under the hood’ of our complex systems. 

This role is based out of our NYC office. Below we've reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees. 

  • New York City: $105,000 - $115,000

This job may also be eligible for variable compensation in the form of a company incentive bonus. For jobs based out of our NYC HQ, we require in office attendance Tuesday through Thursday, weekly.

A day in the life

  • Develop and curate a high-impact product roadmap that advisors will love and that Betterment for Advisors can build a sales and go-to-market plan around
  • Talk to advisors to understand their needs and pain points so you can envision ways to deliver more value to them
  • Design user experiences aimed at delighting advisors and their clients, in partnership with Product Design partners
  • Create materials for legal and compliance reviews ahead of engineering builds
  • Conduct sprint-planning and backlog grooming for engineering squads, in partnership with Engineering leads
  • Develop key success metrics for new product releases & track usage against those metrics
  • Collaborate with your product teammates responsible for adjacent applications and business lines to ensure that other teams are delivering new functionality with advisors in mind
  • Have a direct impact on key business results every day

What we’re looking for

  • Experience working as a Product Manager in a software development setting across an interdisciplinary team of product, design, and engineering
  • Prowess at cultivating relationships with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, especially client-facing colleagues
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills (compelling storytelling in presentations and concise product docs)
  • Decisiveness and ownership while assisting with product development decisions
  • Attention to detail and great organizational skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Success at communicating, prioritizing and balancing needs cross-functionally and across seniority levels
  • A passion for delivering the best possible service to advisor clients
  • Familiarity with the stock market and investing products (i.e., stocks, ETFs, mutual funds)
  • Experience in and an interest in advisor tech is a big plus

What happens next

In the interview process, we’ll look to learn more about your skills, experiences, capabilities, and motivators. Many of our questions will be aimed at understanding how you might operate here at Betterment. Depending on the role, we may ask you to complete a case study exercise or technical assessments, as we want to collect a robust set of data points to better inform our decisions.

On average, it takes us around 3-5 weeks to make a hiring decision, depending on your availability and sense of urgency. As a best practice, we aim to interview at least 2-3 final round candidates before making a hiring decision.
