About the role

  • The Account & Identity team are a key enabler for the business ensuring we deliver personalised and secure experiences. The work this team does enables other teams to build features for our customers by providing core frameworks such as authentication, account creation, identity, and access management

  • We have barely scratched the surface in terms of what we can achieve with our identity model. This role and team have an exciting part to play in enabling us to evolve our experience and increase customer satisfaction. We don’t for example currently allow multi-person accounts which is restricting our customers ability to easily use our services as a family where multiple people have Cash Back Cards or Mobile contracts. That is just one of many use cases that multi-person accounts could unlock, there are many more we can talk about when we meet.

  • This is a technically orientated product role grounded in delivering value for customers. UW has been around for 20 years and in the last 6 we have undertaken a significant amount of replatforming and modernisation of our tech stack. We’ve made a lot of progress but there is still much to do so the ideal candidate is not afraid to help us continue that mission and help set the business up for continued success as we scale

  • You’ll be working closely with Data teams, Product Managers, Marketing managers plus Commercial and Operations stakeholders across the business. With their input you'll identify opportunities to innovate and add value be it through enabling more personalised experiences, better targeted communications, or an improved ability to manage customer accounts

  • The team currently has 3 back end engineers, and we are hiring 2 more

What you'll do

  • Lead on the design of our future identity modelIdentify and prioritise opportunities to improve our identity model enhancing our unique unique multi-service propositionWork with engineering to design and deliver realising value iterativelyWork with service and experience teams to understand the benefits a new identity model will bring and help them utilise it

  • Provide the capabilities that allow customers to access their account easily and securelyCollaborate with experience teams to create journeys that allow customers to create and maintain access to their account (password journeys, magic links etc)Identify and monitor risks that can affect the security of customers accounts in relation to authentication and prioritise initiatives to mitigate these risks

  • Create a prioritised plan that enables the team to re-platform account information away from legacy systemsAssess what parts of platform are most in need of migration in order to enable scalability, productivity, new feature development and securityWork with experience teams and engineering to deliver an improved Account & Identity platform and influence other teams roadmaps to prioritise this

  • Streamline the process for creating accounts at UW so that we can onboard customers at scaleLead on the business logic for how we deal with exceptions in the account creation process (there are lots of these when you have multiple services to consider)Work with operations teams to help improve their tools and processes that sit around account creation

About you
