About the team
Xero Product Designers are responsible for designing beautiful, enabling and meaningful experiences that solve genuine customer problems. They create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups to effectively communicate design ideas. Our product designers engage in research to better understand our customers and the challenges they face and to ensure that the designed solutions are the most effective. Collaborating closely with our product and engineering colleagues they help Xero achieve it’s purpose to make life better for people in small business, their advisors and communities around the world and deliver on it’s vision to be the most insightful and trusted small business platform globally.
You are passionate about product design and finding the right solutions to solve the right problems for our customers. You have experience conducting research can choose the right approach to use as well as make a compelling case for why it is vital to a great customer experience. You can communicate clearly and succinctly especially via your wireframes, prototypes and high fidelity mockups. You also work best collaborating closely with other designers, product, engineers and architects. You are comfortable defending your designs based on rigorous research and best practice approaches while working with your colleagues to accommodate the limitations and needs that constrain the work.
If successful you will work as part of the Accounting platform and Verticals team who are responsible for the Bank Feeds, Bank Reconciliation, Core Accounting, and Inventory products, as well as US product market fit across Xero. You’ll join a team of 8 other designers with a broad range of experience that are ideal to learn from and with as you help deliver on some of the most important projects for Xero.
What You'll Do
- Design practice and thinking - Work with your Design Director and more senior product designers to understand the Product Design vision and direction and build your design practice, focusing on consistency and quality of outcome within your product design delivery.
- Work with others to develop phased design solutions that bridge the gap between a future state and current patterns, XUI design system and other relevant constraints and considerations.
- Create prototypes which tangibly demonstrate a proposed concept or solution.
- Create effective handover materials which clearly communicate how the design should look and behave throughout interaction flows and journeys (e.g. User flow diagrams, design specifications, experience/interaction specifications etc).
- Design research and testing - Contribute to identifying research opportunities, planning and undertaking research and testing relevant to your product area.
- Participate in generative user research to understand customer underlying goals, needs, behaviours and pain points (where necessary).
- Participate in the synthesis of research data, drawing out and articulation of insights.
- Participate in user testing in conjunction with the Design Research or ReOps team.
- Relationship management - Ability to manage key stakeholders, execute & collaborate at pace and work across the AU-NZ timezones with design & engineering pods.
