The Challenge

Ingesting data from multiple external vastly different sources at hundreds of rich data points per second, moving terabytes of data while processing it in real-time, running complex and complicated prediction and forecasting AI models while coupling their output into a hybrid human-machine data refinement process and presenting the result through a nimble low-latency SaaS platform used by customers around the globe is no small feat of science and engineering. As answering the most fundamental and intricate questions posed by traders, analysts, charterers, shipbrokers, and other global oil trade market participants involves an unprecedented amount of sophistication and effort, the job of ensuring that the right questions are asked and answered in the right order, to the utmost customer delight comes to the forefront.

Vortexa delivers top-notch high-quality data and market predictions through a frictionless analytics platform, consisting of API, SDK and front-end applications. The Design team is responsible for leading collaborative product discovery to ensure solutions within these applications are usable by customers. The team conducts behavioural research, creates prototypes, resolve product pain points and designs impressive and intuitive products.

You will join our Design team to help take our market leading analytics platform to the next level. You’ll be instrumental in conducting product discovery to explore and solve complex user problems. Creating interactive prototypes and high-fidelity screens. With the objective to create a product experience that is simple and useful, that solves real customer problems. Working with the wider Product team you’ll also help in defining clearly scoped minimum viable solutions that are feasible to build in proposed timelines.

Requirements

Who You Are

• Have 5+ years as a Product or UX/UI designer and designed SaaS products
• Experienced at taking complex, fuzzy problems and boiling them down into simple, elegant solutions.
• Able to create early concepts and interactive prototypes. Delivering all design stages from concept through to final hand-off to engineering while keeping with Vortexa’s design systems and guidelines.
• Comfortable gathering, understanding and evaluating user requirements in collaboration with product management and other stakeholders.
• Advocate for evidence-based design. Receiving product feedback from both colleagues and customers to enable rapid prototype iteration cycles.
• Proactive at conducting user and market research and reviewing user behavioural trends to optimise our existing products and drive ideas for new features and products.
• Experienced at working closely with Engineering teams. You’ll provide design specifications and design quality control for each scope/iteration in the product development process.
• Proficiency with prototyping and visual design tools, e.g. Whimsical, Figma, Sketch
• Excited about working in a start-up environment: not afraid of challenges, excited to bring new products to market, and a positive can-do will-do person, not afraid to push the boundaries of your job role – “I’ve done my bit” has no place at Vortexa.

Great If You

• Have a portfolio that demonstrates research, UX and visual skills in digital products (including dashboards design).
• Worked with data-heavy products and analytics tool that use charts and data visualisations.
• A degree or equivalent qualification in Design.
• Have an understanding and appreciation of business metrics and the ability to translate company goals and objectives into digital experiences.
• Proficient with product analytics software: e.g. Heap, FullStory, Azure Application Insights
• Knowledgeable of web implementation technologies to the level where you can converse with engineers about implementation details
