About Fonoa

Our goal is to change how companies globally handle their taxes, and we're committed to building world-class products. We are processing more than 300 million transactions per year and helping clients like Uber, Zoom, Teachable scale their businesses globally.

Our team is fully distributed. We give people the freedom to work wherever and how they want, enable more fluid communication, and put our time where it matters the most - decisions. We are curious, dedicated, and humble. We are building a workplace that fosters inclusivity, openness, and trust, where we can all be authentic and human in everything that we do. We trust the expertise of our employees and give them the freedom to solve complex problems to make taxes simple, automated, borderless, and accessible for the internet economy

Our products

We have a suite of API products that automate tax-related workflows for any internet company. Those products are Lookup, Tax, Invoicing, and Reporting.

We may discover novel customer needs as we learn, and spin up new products as needed.

About the role

As a Product Designer at Fonoa, your task will be to understand our target customers, internalize our business goals, analyze competitive product offerings, devise and deliver best in class design and work on implementing it (with our front end team).

Everything you touch will be consumed by our customers and partners, and you will have a direct and immediate impact on everything we ship. In your role you will own projects from conception to launch and measure success through data and user research.

You'll play a key role in roadmapping, feature design, and the quality of our products, and your work will impact both user and business goals. We are solving one of the largest yet unsolved problems in global e-commerce and looking for a designer with a hunger for a new challenge and drive to solve a ubiquitous problem for companies selling globally. Our clients range from world-leading marketplaces, e-commerce, delivery to household-name mobility companies.

“One of the best parts of being at Fonoa is that I get to solve real problems, historically ignored by the tech world. I get confirmation of this every day from conversations with customers, both prospects and existing ones: tax compliance is hard, and businesses are desperate for tools that simplify it.” - Etienne Le Blan, Product Manager

What you will be doing:

  • Learn about how painful it is for companies to handle tax manually, and think about how our products are changing the status quo
  • Specialize in one of our core product areas and work closely with engineers and product managers to define both the long-term strategy and the short-term tactics for that product
  • Work with engineers and product managers to define both the long-term strategy and the short-term tactics for our products
  • Work closely with designers on your team to develop and expand product design systems
  • Sometimes work on very broadly defined, loose concepts, and sometimes on narrowly defined, tactical deliverables
  • Partner closely with our user research team and support ongoing research projects
  • Focus on what you do best — whether that’s sketches, wireframes, prototypes, designs, or user testing—and you’ll have the opportunity to sharpen the skills you’re looking to develop
  • Contribute to sales/marketing collateral (produce deck templates, email templates, brochures, brand assets, website visuals, etc, etc.)
  • Use every learning and observation to improve our products, constantly

You would be a great fit if:

  • You have 5+ years of digital product design experience working on web and native applications
  • You are fully proficient in English. Written and spoken, as we are a bunch from around the world, but we work in English.
  • You are skilled in storytelling (explaining your work, process, and decisions)
  • You have experience designing for business and developer-focused products
  • You have a strong sense of ownership, you care about what you build, and that you are building the right thing that serves your customers.
  • You’re a builder at heart, you like the opportunity of having tons of exposure, making things work for a company long term, and have an entrepreneurial attitude for anything that comes your way.
  • You ship, fast, continuously, and iteratively, learning on each step.
  • You like to use data over opinions to make decisions. And are ok with finding the data yourself when it’s missing.
  • You are comfortable with change, either in priorities, goals and deadlines. You see this more as an opportunity than a hurdle. You are also comfortable with challenging the status quo and pushing for change yourself.
  • You’re looking to make a serious impact, and are excited about working in a high growth startup.

Note:

If you feel you don’t have the full experience we’re looking for but feel you could be a bit fit, are willing to learn, do apply anyway! We are trying to build a diverse and inclusive team.
