About us:

Parabola is the spreadsheet alternative where you combine the data running throughout your company and create automated processes.

Pull in data from any source you can imagine—from scattered spreadsheets and tools, to emails and PDFs—and build logic that replicates the manual work you do every day. Use our canvas to combine and transform your data, and surface the results to the right people at the right time so you can do more with the data you rely on. In the process, you’ll codify the steps for every workflow you manage so they become repeatable, shareable, and usable for the whole team.

Create solutions for the problems you’ve always wanted to solve, and make your work more shareable and impactful along the way.

Parabola is proud to serve companies like Flexport, Sonos, Uber Freight, Brooklinen, and Chubbies and is backed by OpenView Partners, Matrix Partners, Thrive Capital and more.

The basics

  • This role is remote-hybrid-friendly, but we have a strong preference for candidates in the SF Bay Area (where Parabola headquarters is). Our team operates in a hybrid manner: usually 2 days per week in our Downtown San Francisco office, and otherwise flexible.
  • We’re looking for a midlevel candidate with 2-5 years of experience. While experience is important, we especially value an appetite to learn and execute in a complex data product.
  • The Salary Range is $115,000 - $145,000, plus competitive equity. The salary given for this position is dependent on multiple factors, including years of experience, interview performance and anticipated responsibilities of the role. Our base salary is one component of Parabola’s competitive total package, which also includes equity and premium health and wellness benefits..

What we need designers for

Applicants should excel in the first category below, but being able to stretch across multiple types of work is a bonus.

  1. Product/UI: This is the priority for this role. Our EPD (Engineering, Product, Design) team is building data tool that is highly visual and interactive, offering a unique opportunity for designers. Comfort with working with React Components and libraries is highly beneficial, as is any coding knowledge, but not strictly necessary.
  2. Web/Marketing: There may be occasional needs to work on the website, marketing collateral (presentations, emails, case studies, ads, etc.), and our visual systems.
  3. Misc: As always, Design is uniquely able to help with some things, like designing company swag, expanding our visual system, and more! We prioritize our time carefully but will help wherever possible.

What’s so exciting about being a designer at Parabola

🚀 A truly empowering product

At Parabola, you can help design a robust user interface that really changes people’s professional lives. Every B2B startup talks about “empowering” someone, but we’re actually helping folks turn their expertise — team processes, data workflows, operational checklists — into automated programs that they write themselves. It’s helping them become very productive developers without having to learn how to write code.

✌️ The best team

Parabola is full of humble, empathetic, and intelligent folks from all over. We’re not just interested in “doing our jobs”: we’re here to build and excellent product and our favorite workplace.

The Design team is small (currently a Design Lead and a Sr. Brand Designer), but is highly collaborative and has influence across the company.

A Product Designer at Parabola will work with other Designers, a Product Manager, and Engineers to build UI/UX that makes it easy to accomplish complex things with data.

📈 A promising company

We’re growing and successfully selling this product to new customers, then expanding customers as they realize how awesome Parabola is. We’re on the cusp of further growth, building promising new features — think AI, visualization, and customization — and making big decisions about the trajectory of the company. So now is the time to join if you want to be part of that growth.

Things to know about how we work

  • 🖼️ Designers can ship end to end. Different Designers on our team bring different strengths, but we can all finish and ship our own highly polished visual designs. We expect for this Product Designer to do the same (no research- or UX-only roles).
  • 📣 Exchanging feedback is our way of life. We value making good decisions together — as a team — and welcome input from everyone. Remember: Great ideas come from anywhere, feedback makes your designs better, and the designs are ours, not mine or yours.
  • 🪁 We want to ship quickly, but execute well. As a startup, we value speedy shipping … it’s how we make a difference in the world. The Design team helps empower our partners to ship quickly, but while still maintaining a high quality bar. Balancing those things is at the core of our day to day designing and decision-making.
  • 🤖 The product is friendly (and it’s awesome), but it’s technical. We lean on and trust in our customer conversations, CX, Product, and Engineering partners to make informed decisions and design intuitive interactions.
  • 🖌️ We work in Figma. And it works really well for us. That includes our visual system and a lot of marketing surfaces as well.
  • 🪟 We use a lot of modals! Check out our blog post to learn why.
