Role summary

Finite State is looking for a Product Designer. In this role you will take a product, feature, or experience from ideation to production. This includes vision setting, designing solutions, prototyping, bringing along cross-functional teams, overseeing implementation, and collaborating with other designers, researchers, product managers, analysts, and engineers. This role is a mid to senior level position and reports to the Product Design Manager.

You must be based in and authorized to work in the US.

Research shows that women and those in underrepresented groups tend to apply only if they meet 100% of the requirements in a job description. If you think you have what it takes, but don’t check off every box - please still get in touch! We’d love to learn more about your experience and what motivates you to see if you’d be a great fit.

As a Product Designer, you will:

  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams, internal users, and business stakeholders to understand customer needs and problems, strategize, and build solutions
  • Set design requirements based on information from internal teams and user research
  • Research and map out internal and external customer needs with all possible paths a user would take
  • Follow an iterative design process by incorporating feedback, launching quickly, and testing hypotheses in an agile environment
  • Prepare wireframes, user and process flows and other artifacts to efficiently and effectively communicate design ideas to a cross-functional team
  • Stay up to date on current industry trends and market conditions
  • Coordinate with other design team members to ensure consistent and accurate communication
  • Work with key stakeholders to improve products based on success metrics and changing customer and market needs
  • Present product design ideas to cross-functional teams and senior leadership
  • Uphold our core values of transparency, results, accountability, customer dedication, and courage
  • Champion our mission to protect our connected world

What we’re looking for:

  • 2+ years of designing enterprise applications (ideally  B2B software products for technical users)
  • Proven experience in all phases of the design process including user research, copywriting, wireframing, prototyping, visual design, interaction design, and usability testing
  • An intuitive eye for customer needs beyond the obvious
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively and iteratively with both fellow designers and PMs, Engineers, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, iterative environment as we are developing a new solution for the market
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to collect and interpret both qualitative and quantitative feedback
  • A well-rounded portfolio of client work, demonstrating a strong understanding of client objectives
  • Passion for design; not satisfied with the status quo and always thinking of ways to improve
  • Creative problem-solving skills and product thinking experience
  • Dynamic, creative personality, effective at engaging and influencing a variety of audiences
  • Recommend new tools and technologies by staying abreast of the latest trends and techniques

It’s a plus if you also have:

  • BS/MS degree in Design/Human-Computer Interaction or equivalent
  • Experience designing in Figma
  • Front-end development experience, particularly in React.js
  • Experience being part of a hyper-growth startup
  • Experience helping bring a new product to market
  • Experience working in a continuous delivery model.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the cyber security market, specifically in network security analytics, product security, vulnerability discovery and management, application security, and IoT security.

Success path

  • In 30 days you will: have gained an understanding of the product, our users, our industry, our business goals and objectives, and are ready to start contributing.
  • In 60 days you will: start to take on some smaller tasks of your own and contribute to the Design team. You will work closely with other Designers to iterate on designs and provide constructive feedback to ensure we’re setting Engineering up for success and designing features that truly impact our users and solve the problems they’re facing.

About Us

Built on two decades of cybersecurity experience, our team of experts understands the hidden risks in today’s enterprise networks, where IoT vulnerabilities are quickly becoming the entry point of choice for cyber attacks.

We have a sense of duty to protect the critical infrastructure we rely on including medical devices, power grids and telecommunication networks. We were founded in 2017 in Columbus, Ohio.

Finite State has a transparent, collaborative and supportive culture - we are looking for people who have a growth mindset, are curious and innovative, and drive results. The Finite State platform brings visibility and control to the supply chains that create connected devices and embedded systems—all in a simple to use platform and at the scale manufacturers need to keep device production on time and on budget. After unpacking and analyzing every file, configuration, and setting in a firmware build, the platform generates a complete bill of materials for software components, identifies known and 0-day vulnerabilities, shows a contextual risk score, and provides actionable insights that product teams can use to secure their software
