Role Summary

We’re looking for a lead designer to elevate documentation as a first-class product at Mistral. Documentation isn’t just an afterthought—it’s the backbone of how our teams, customers, and builder partners understand, adopt, and innovate with Mistral’s products. If you’re a designer who’s curious, systems-oriented, and obsessed with clarity, and you want to shape how the world learns to build with AI, let’s talk.

This role is critical: You’ll work across all areas of the product, collaborating with designers, PMs, engineers, and customer support to ensure our documentation is intuitive, visually compelling, and deeply user-centric. You’ll think holistically about the UI/UX of docs, from information architecture to interactive examples, and be savvy at communicating complex concepts—whether through your own graphic design skills, collaboration with graphic designers, or AI tools.

About Mistral Documentation

Our documentation is the bridge between our cutting-edge AI products and the people who use them. It’s not just text on a page—it’s a dynamic, interactive experience that empowers developers, enterprises, and partners to build, deploy, and scale AI solutions with confidence. You’ll treat docs as a product: user-tested, data-informed, and designed for maximum impact.

What you will do
  • Lead the design of Mistral’s documentation, treating it as a first-class product that solves real user problems.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with designers, product managers, engineers, and customer support to identify gaps, improve clarity, and enhance usability in our docs.
  • Think holistically about the UI/UX of documentation: information architecture, navigation, search, interactive demos, and visual storytelling.
  • Design for all users: from internal teams to external developers, enterprises, and builder partners.
  • Communicate complex concepts visually: Create diagrams, flowcharts, animations, or other assets (either yourself or in collaboration with graphic designers or AI tools) to make technical ideas accessible and engaging.
  • Advocate for the user: Use data, feedback, and your own curiosity to continuously improve how people learn and use Mistral’s products.
  • Innovate with AI: Explore how AI can enhance documentation—from dynamic content generation to personalized learning paths.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of product design experience, with a focus on documentation, developer tools, or technical communication.
  • Deeply curious about how people learn and use complex products. You ask “why?” until you understand the root problem.
  • Systems thinker: You can design for scalability, consistency, and maintainability across a growing suite of products.
  • UI/UX savvy: You understand how to design intuitive, user-friendly documentation interfaces, from layout to interaction.
  • Visual communicator: You’re comfortable creating or art-directing graphics, diagrams, and other visual aids to simplify complex ideas (using tools like Figma, Illustrator, or AI-assisted design).
  • Collaborative and proactive: You thrive in cross-functional teams and can drive projects forward with minimal oversight.
  • Experience with:
    • Designing developer-facing documentation (APIs, SDKs, tutorials, or technical guides).
    • Technical writing or content design (a plus if you’ve worked with Markdown, Docusaurus, or similar tools).
    • AI/ML concepts (familiarity with model deployment, inference, or cloud services is a bonus).
  • Clear, concise, and empathetic communicator—you can explain technical topics to both experts and newcomers.
Joining our design team
  • Founding team: Help build the culture, processes, and design language that will define Mistral’s infrastructure and Studio products for years.

  • Designing for good: Shape how the world interacts with AI and cloud computing—focusing on sovereignty, transparency, and user empowerment.

  • Zero-to-one impact: Design products from scratch, not incremental tweaks.

  • Builder energy: We’re all makers at heart, focused on shipping great experiences, not politics.

Our hiring process

  1. Portfolio review: Show us how you’ve designed documentation or technical content—we want to see your approach to solving user problems.
  2. Take-home challenge: Design a documentation experience for a complex AI concept.
  3. Team interviews: Chat with design, engineering, and product teams. We’re looking for collaborators who think holistically.
  4. Culture fit: We want people who are passionate about teaching and learning.
