Job Description

We're building the fastest way to access all the information you rely on to do your job. Command E is a blazing fast search tool with a UI similar to Mac OS X's "Spotlight" but for all the apps and services you use at work - like Salesforce, Gmail, Google Drive, LinkedIn, Intercom, Notion, Dropbox, Jira, Slack, Zendesk, etc. We are bringing this to Dropbox in 2022, and are in search of a great product designer to bring this work to life.
In time, we're excited to add more interactivity into the product and power more robust workflow enhancements for Dropbox users. We believe many of the UIs we all deal with day-to-day are too heavy and slow, introducing unnecessary friction and sapping productivity from knowledge workers everywhere.
You’ll make a massive impact, leading the charge on the design front. We’re off to a strong start with a product early users love, but there’s a ton more to do and great design will be make or break.

What makes this team special

  • Command E is a very experienced, close-knit, fast-moving team that takes their work seriously but has a lot of fun doing it.
  • We’re building a product that people use frequently throughout the workday - with an aim towards being used at minimum hourly in contrast to most products on the market. This product will be used.

What we’re looking for

If the idea of leading this function end-to-end without friction or a ton of process excites you, we’d love to hear from you. We’re open to a range of experiences, but it might be an especially strong fit if you:
  • 7+ yrs. of experience in UX/Product Design
  • have worked with startups before and like moving fast
  • especially enjoy UX + product thinking or have experience working on products with the kinds of micro-interactions Command E excels at within people’s existing workflows. We're building a desktop app with a few core screens where every interaction matters rather than a web app with 30+ pages.
  • are interested in Human-Computer Interaction
  • have front-end development experience

Interesting facts about current team members - achievements, where they came from, etc

  • Our current team is very senior with past experience leading meaningful projects at Dropbox, Stripe, WhatsApp, Eventbrite, Uber, and First Round Capital among others.
  • Command E was a startup acquired by Dropbox in November 2021 and the founding team continues to lead the project - you’ll be working closely with the founders to drive Command E forward as it scales.

Setting expectations

  • This is an opportunity to take on a player-coach role, leading major projects yourself while also mentoring other members of the team.
  • This is a highly visible role and will be expected to present to all levels of the company including executive leadership.
