At Atlan, we started as a data team ourselves tackling problems like national level healthcare and poverty alleviation with data science (TED talk; Case Studies)

The problem: That's how we learn't how tough it was to scale data teams. Data teams are the most interdisciplinary teams ever created: Analysts, Scientists, Engineers, Business; Diverse people with their own tooling preferences and skillsets and "DNA" that need to come together and collaborate effectively. Leading to collaboration chaos.

We would be awoken with crisis calls every second day for the minutest of issues - from troubleshooting why number on a dashboard is incorrect to getting access to the right dataset! Atlan started as us building small tools to make our own data team more agile.

Over a couple of years, we made our team 6X more agile and went on to do amazing things like build India's National Data Platform used by its Prime Minister. (data for 500M citizens, built by an 8 member team, fastest project of its kind to go live — in 12 months instead of projected 3 years)

Your mission at Atlan 🏡

Understand the domain and technology of the product area in which you work on. You will do an initial round of research and stay updated with competitor products and features.
Listen in on customer calls and participate in user interviews to understand user problems and feature requests from customers relevant to your product area, and collaborate with the team to design efficient solutions.
Collaborate with the Product Manager in defining and enhancing products and features with insights from qualitative and quantitative research
Own the design process end to end - from concepts, user flows and wireframes to visuals and shipping of the feature and impact validation.
Collaborate with the PM & engineering teammates and break down the designs to release cycles, iterate the product based on feedback from customer-facing teams and analytics.
Collaborate with the other designers and frontend team to create and maintain reusable design components and tokens, thus contributing to our design system and asset library.
Participate in regular design critique and help improve and evangelize the design culture at Atlan!

What makes you a match for us? 😍

You enjoy learning continuously and can absorb complex domain-related concepts quickly and effectively. Databases, querying, lineage etc will soon become the jargon you'll have to speak and understand. You'll stand out if you have a background in Computer Science or a fair understanding of the data ecosystem
You have previous experience designing consumer-grade enterprise software experiences. Experience working in the data domain will be an added bonus.
You’ve got a portfolio of work that shows us your product design skills from concept to visual design execution
You believe in iterating rapidly and don't shy away from taking a creative approach to problem-solving
You have strong critical thinking skills - i.e. you demonstrate the ability to deconstruct a complex problem into its base components and figure out the most effective way to solve it
You're well versed with standard experience design tools and have experience making all kinds of visual design deliverables like icons, product illustrations, micro animations, etc.
You can communicate effectively and work autonomously - it will be much needed in a remote setup!
