Product Design Lead, App Ecosystem

Gusto is looking for an experienced design leader to join our App Ecosystem Product Design Team. We’re looking for someone who’s equally interested in building a thriving team and thoughtfully designed products for our customers

This role will lead the design of our App Directory, key integrations, and software provisioning. These products are central to extending Gusto’s offering to meet the specialized needs of small and growing businesses.

This is a player-coach role where your responsibilities will include both people management and product design. You’ll be involved in the entire product development process from initial strategic planning all the way to launching and iterating on experiences for our customers. 

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

• Contribute to high-level strategic decisions around product design and development
• Provide design feedback that advocates for users and pushes the quality bar
• With your team, identify, understand, and solve complex problems to address user needs
• Coach, manage, and grow a team of designers
• Partner with PM and Engineer Leads to create products from concept to launch
• Make the product vision come to life through strategic thinking and compelling storytelling 

Here’s what we're looking for:

• 2+ years experience as a people manager, leading and caring for designers
• Interest in and ability to work in a combination role- people management and contributing as an IC designer
• Strong design background, with a track record of shipping high quality products
• Willingness to collaborate with a remote team based partially in Turkey, working Eastern Time Zone hours (eg: New York)
• Ability to work through complex user problems to arrive at elegant, simple solutions
• Experience balancing long-term design goals with a quick, iterative development process
• Strategic thinker who has experience working at different altitudes, across the entire customer journey

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $150,000 - $180,000/ year in Denver & most remote locations, and $180,000 - $210,000/ year for San Francisco. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
