About the opportunity

Gusto is looking for both Product Design and User Experience (UX) Research Interns to join our team for Summer 2022. You will get a chance to work on shipping projects, with exposure to the whole design process including research, ideation, concept development, and final designs. As a Product Design or User Research Intern, you'll work and learn alongside other interns as well as design team members, engineers, and product managers, and apply your design skills to real-world problems. Research Interns will own a piece of the research problem and work alongside research mentors to deliver actionable insights that will help product and design teams drive towards better customer experiences. 

This position will be remote. Based on fit, there is potential for a full-time position. We have offices in San Francisco, Denver, and New York City, and will continue to support fully remote work. 

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

• You’ll be embedded directly in Gusto’s Product Design team and based on your role (design or research), you will partner closely with stakeholders and key partners to drive your project.
• Take ownership of your own projects; communicate, present, & share work in progress
• Be part of the active product development process.
• Utilize Gusto’s design system; actively design with existing components and make recommendations for improvements.
• Explore different ways to solve problems and identify viable solutions through qualitative and quantitative feedback

Here’s what we’re looking for:

• Graduating Spring 2022 or a recent graduate with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the area of User Experience, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field with a focus on design or research. Bootcamp experience is also welcome!
• Familiar with designing and prototyping in tools such as Figma or Sketch (we use Figma here at Gusto).
• Knowledge of visual design fundamentals including layout, color, and typography
• Experience with research methodologies
• Strong presentation, storytelling, and communication skills
• Self-motivated and able to deliver high-quality work on short timelines
• An online design or research portfolio with samples of your work that demonstrate how you led a project, your process, and the impact of your work.

Our cash compensation amount for this internship is targeted at $40.39/hr - $46.16 /hr in Denver & most remote locations, and $50.90/hr - $58.17/hr for San Francisco and New York City. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
