Product Design Intern, Design Systems (Summer 2022)

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

We are looking for remote Product Design, Design Systems interns for 12-week summer opportunities.

Our focus is to solve complex needs for design teams at Square so that they can create experiences for sellers of all types and sizes. We aim to create design systems that are flexible, and scalable. We pride ourselves on rethinking established paradigms and redefining elegance in software. Designers at Square take projects from napkin sketches to final visual specifications. You will: 

• Work with teams across the Square organization to design components, libraries, and patterns for the central design system, Market
• Work with Brand to establish and document best practices across product and marketing
• Present work and progress to our partners to validate their needs and adoption

You have: 

• Graduated within 6 months of the internship start date or will graduate by June 2022. Recent bootcamp graduates are also considered within six months of completing program/training requirements
• Passion for turning complex problems into simple and engaging customer experiences
• Comfort with an iterative design process
• Interest in developing information architecture, interactive prototypes, and documentation that supports design systems

Even better: 

• Familiarity with Figma
• Interest in product and UI design
• Knowledge of user experience best practices
• Have a technical understanding of how your designs translate to code
