About The Role

Humane’s Product Design Engineering team is responsible for ideating, designing, engineering new classes of devices that will fundamentally change the way we interact with computers.  The PD team is integral in defining products. We work closely with industrial designers, hardware engineers, software engineers, and interaction designers to bring our ideas to life.  We value creativity and breaking down barriers. We iterate, iterate and iterate again until it’s right.  We seek passionate individuals who aren’t afraid to step outside their comfort zone.  As a Product Design Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to work directly with the rest of the world-class design and hardware teams to engineer and execute the Humane product vision. 

2023 Internship Program Dates: May/June-August/September 2023. Final dates based on student schedule.

What You Might Do

  • Work closely with our PD and ID teams to design and build up prototypes to quickly validate concepts
  • Use 3D CAD to design and model parts and components for a brand new consumer device
  • Create detailed 2D Drawings for parts and assemblies for fabrication by our vendor partners 
  • Design and conduct experiments and use technical analysis to help drive design decisions

Essential Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree (Bachelors or Masters) in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Product Design Engineering
  • Experience using 3D CAD (NX preferred) to design mechanical components and assemblies
  • Passion and experience in building and prototyping
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to present to a large technical and non-technical audience

Preferred Skills

  • Experience building consumer products
  • Knowledgeable about a wide variety of materials, and scalable manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with machine tools and prototyping equipment (3D printers, laser cutters, mills, etc.)
  • Experience in industrial design, human interaction design, or graphic design
