Product Design Engineer Intern Summer 2023

About the role:

We are seeking  Summer 2023 (May/June) interns for our Product Design Team! As a member of the Product Design Team, you will work on meaningful projects that will add value to Skydio. You will solve interesting problems and learn from a world-class team of engineers and researchers. A few example projects are listed below:

Scrappy Wind Tunnel

• Exactly what it sounds like. Learn what makes a wind tunnel a wind tunnel.
• Make a wind tunnel.
• Stage 2 is to use this to learn about the aerodynamic forces on the drone to inform design improvements.

FA, Root Cause, Design/Process change to fix it, Implement it

• On a shipping or developing product, chase down an issue of concern down to the root cause.
• Create a fix, be it design change or process.
• Validate the fix.
• Work with supply base engineers and vendors to implement the fix.

Next Generation Prototyping

• Design and build prototypes to learn about critical performance items for next generation products
• Creatively use rapid prototyping processes to achieve the desired learnings in the most expedient and scrappy manner

What makes you a good fit:

• Ability to apply analytical problem solving skills and engineering fundamentals to create high-quality designs for a sophisticated electromechanical system.
• Passion for 3D CAD. Experience with CATIA is highly valued. 
• Ability to design for a broad array of manufacturing processes (injection molding, metal casting, and CNC machining required, sheet metal forming and composites desired). 
• Excellent sense of how best to prototype quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced scrappy environment.
• Passion for elegant mechanical design at the highest and lowest levels of detail.
