If you have a passion for solving challenging problems; learning how to build scalable, robust systems; love working with the latest technologies in a fast-paced, flexible environment; and are excited at the prospect of having a significant impact on software that over 238 million people use and love, then we want to talk to you.

About the Design Foundations Team
Design Foundations is a team part of the larger Core XD organization. We build, maintain, and support Hawkins, Netflix Design System. We are accelerators and partners, with collaboration and the success of the product teams we serve at the heart of what we do. Our grounding principle is quality at scale, faster over time.

About the role
This internship is an opportunity to learn from and contribute to the product innovation process at the world’s leading streaming entertainment company. You will partner with other designers and engineers in envisioning and implementing solutions for Hawkins that will shape the future of Netflix.

You will walk away from this program with:
- Hands-on experience in the process of systems design at Netflix
- Sharpened design system skills, learning from industry-leading experts
- New connections with industry peers and mentors
- Active participation in a cross-functional environment that focuses on delivering features globally

About you
You have a ‘maker’ mindset and look at the world at large through a systems-thinking lens, approaching challenges from both a technical and creative perspective.

You possess solid foundational design skills and are passionate about expanding them. Your intense curiosity compels you to try new technologies and design for new platforms.

You thrive on collaboration. You’re inclusive in your engagement with your team and cross-functional partners. You have a low ego, and you welcome honest, open feedback as easily as you give it.

What we’re looking for

  • Current student graduating in December 2024 or Spring/Summer 2025 in a graduate or undergraduate course covering Design Systems, Product Design, Human-Centered Design/Interaction, or other related fields.
  • Strong proficiency with Figma and confidence in fully leveraging its features (i.e., components, auto-layout, libraries, etc.)
  • Curiosity about the design system community with a desire to innovate next-generation systems, tooling & workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • The flexibility and open-mindedness needed to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • A passion and taste for world-class design and user experiences.

Nice to have

  • A basic understanding of technical constraints and how to design solutions that can be effectively engineered for a specific platform (i.e., TV, web, or mobile)
  • Understanding of existing industry-leading design system best practices.
  • Experience in leveraging and contributing to a design system, even a small one.
  • Awareness about the value of driving accessible solutions at scale and advocating for inclusive experiences across platforms.
  • A love of movies, TV shows, and interactive media.
Don’t meet every single requirement? That’s ok! If you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we still encourage you to apply.
