About Recurly:
Recurly, Inc., a SaaS company, provides a versatile subscription management platform to manage the entire subscription lifecycle for market-leading brands worldwide. Subscription businesses such as Sling TV, FabFitFun, Cinemark and
Fubo.tv depend on Recurly to harness the power of the subscription model and drive recurring revenue growth. Since its launch in 2009, Recurly has deployed subscription billing for thousands of companies across 55 countries. Our platform empowers billions of credit card transactions and has enabled customers to recover nearly $1.3 billion in revenue in 2024.
Recurly is backed by Accel-KKR, a leading technology-focused private equity firm with over $10 billion in capital commitments. The partnership offers Recurly access to significant capital and resources to make continued investments in technology and platform innovation and expand our go-to-market initiatives.
As the Principal Product Manager, Payments at Recurly, you’ll be responsible for leading the evolution of our payments platform to support high-scale, global, and conversion-optimized subscription billing. You’ll own and drive initiatives that directly impact payment success rates, global coverage, and compliance — positioning Recurly as a best-in-class platform for merchants with complex subscription and payment requirements.
We are looking for someone with deep payments domain expertise — including card networks, settlements, local and cross-border acquiring, alternative payment methods, compliance (like 3DS and UPI mandates), and advanced multi-gateway orchestration. You’ll set a product vision rooted in business impact, merchant insight, and platform resilience, and bring it to life through close collaboration cross functionally and our global merchant base. Your success will be measured by your ability to scale payments, reduce operational costs, expand Recurly’s global payment footprint, and improve overall payment resiliency.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the Payments product strategy, including card processing, APMs, cross-border/local acquiring, settlement flows, and gateway orchestration.
- Lead discovery and research efforts to deeply understand merchant needs, regulatory mandates (e.g. 3DS2, SEPA, PSD2, UPI), and region-specific behaviors.
- Build on Token lifecycle management (vaulting, card updates, network tokens), Payments Risk and Compliance capabilities
- Define merchant-facing tooling for observability and configurability across their payment stack
- Look across all Recurly products, features, and functionality to creative innovative solutions that solve problems or realize opportunities holistically. Don’t just own a feature, own a problem/opportunity.
- Take big ideas and break them down into deliverable chunks of functionality that prioritize items with the highest ROI first (focus on getting value out to market quickly).
- Work cross functionally and collaboratively with leaders on Technology, Marketing, Sales, and Customer teams to drive successful product launches and execute successfully on go-to-market strategies. These include driving partnership conversations, analyzing costs, facilitating pricing strategies, competitive analysis, etc.
- Be an exceptional communicator, both written and oral. As a Principal PM, it is important that information you share is catered for the audience (including execs) you are delivering it to.
- Quantify your impact through KPIs and metrics and hold yourself accountable to the outcomes you are trying to achieve.
- Own outcomes, not just outputs — drive measurable impact, metrics and KPIs on failover success, dispute resolution, chargebacks and auth rates.
- Evangelize payments vision internally and externally, and mentor others across the Product organization on how payments connects to value and growth.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience delivering products on payments and/or in the fintech industry, including 0-1 successful product launches.
- Deep understanding of card processing, authorization + capture, settlements, and local acquiring.
- Entrepreneurial spirit with proven experience implementing and managing payment workflows.
- Working knowledge of global risk and compliance mandates and end-user experience
- Experience enabling or integrating alternate payment methods (APMs) and e-wallets.
- Strong understanding of tokenization, fraud signals, chargebacks, and payment retries.
- Ability to lead discovery and roadmap initiatives that tie directly to merchant ROI
- Excellent communication skills and executive presence — able to align senior stakeholders across engineering, operations, CS and GTM.
- Working knowledge of ML services and concepts in payments
- Strategic, structured thinker who thrives on ambiguity and scales product direction with confidence.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills that drive clarity and influence at the C-suite level as well drive successful collaboration and alignment across different levels of stakeholders across engineering, legal, compliance, marketing, operations, and finance.
- Self-motivated, with a strong sense of ownership to drive product success
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
