Principal Product Manager, Data Platform

The Opportunity
We're looking for a Principal Product Manager to lead two critical data platform teams that power Toast's entire engineering and analytics ecosystem. You'll own the roadmap for:

OLAP Platform — The real-time data backbone that enables Toast engineers to build faster and more effectively. This platform delivers low-latency, highly available, real-time data access across the company, directly accelerating how quickly we can ship features for our restaurant customers.

Advanced Analytics Platform — The offline data infrastructure serving data scientists, ML engineers, and product teams company-wide. You'll create reusable data primitives that scale across the organization, eliminating redundant work and unlocking new analytical capabilities.

What You'll Do
Your mission is to identify high-leverage opportunities where thoughtful platform investments can meaningfully accelerate development velocity across Toast. Rather than building one-off solutions, you'll craft general-purpose capabilities that multiply the productivity of dozens of teams.

You'll partner with a diverse set of stakeholders, including data scientists, machine learning engineers, backend engineers, product analysts, engineering managers, and fellow product managers, to understand their needs, prioritize ruthlessly, and deliver platform features that create exponential value.

In this role, your decisions will determine how efficiently hundreds of engineers can work and how quickly Toast can innovate for our customers. You'll be building the infrastructure that makes everything else possible.

A day in the life (Responsibilities) 

• Lead, influence and contribute across R&D to drive business value for Toast and our restaurant customers
• Collaborate closely with product and engineering stakeholders to drive strategic direction for Toast’s data platforms, enabling Toast to solve classes of data problems once
• Help in assessing tradeoffs and how best to meet product team needs while building in a scalable and sustainable way
• Work effectively in a dynamic, changing environment while focusing on key goals and objectives

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

• 6+ years of experience as a product manager for platforms teams, ideally with a strong focus on data
• Strong knowledge of platform engineering, including experience guiding platform builds or contributing to building them
• Comfortable working across multiple teams with competing priorities and timelines
• Familiarity with AI tools, including common LLMs (e.g. Claude Code)
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and product stakeholders to evaluate new technologies and their ability to meet Toast’s data platform needs
• Strong communication skills, demonstrated through documentation and presentations. Able to present findings to senior management to inform business decisions.
