At GetYourGuide, we are on a mission to change the way people travel by giving them access to incredible experiences wherever they are. Visiting the Colosseum Underground, seeing the Vatican Museums, or taking a delicious street food tour of Rome - people value experiences that connect them with their destination’s history and culture, creating memories that last a lifetime. We come to work everyday because we are passionate about our mission and design is a critical part of it.

The role:

The Lead Product Designer will be responsible for continuing to build Compass, the GetYourGuide design system. The role will be embedded in the Traveler Platform team, which owns our design system. The role is highly impactful and strategic because it affects all customer facing product teams in our organization. For this reason, it requires an extremely collaborative attitude and excellent communication skills.

In addition to an extremely detail-oriented attention to design consistency and usability issues, the role also requires a minimal understanding of coding and the ability of communicating well with engineers. The ideal candidate will also have design vision and be capable of seeing GetYourGuide beyond what it is today, champion the voice of our users, and bring our joyful travel brand to life across our product.

About the GYG UX team:

We are a multi-disciplinary team of Product Designers, Content Designers, and UX Researchers that are passionate about solving customer problems in an effective and delightful way. We combine empathy, our craft, and creativity to create valuable, usable, and delightful product experiences.

Our work is guided by strong principles that make our experience focus on value and feel simple, trustworthy, human, and unique. We collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Data to ensure those principles are front and center in the features we develop.

What you’ll do:

  • You will initiate, iterate on, and deliver world-class designs across web, native apps, and other surfaces.
  • You will consistently and recognizably apply qualitative and quantitative insights in making day-to-day design and product decisions.
  • You will work in close collaboration with UX researchers, being a primary actor in defining strategic research initiatives and executing on design validation studies.
  • You will use research and behavioral analytics as your foundation to be a strong human-centered advocate for our users, their needs, desires and mental models.
  • You will work in close collaboration with Product Managers and Engineers to ensure a high quality bar in the final implementation.
  • You will establish strong collaborative relationships with your stakeholders to create alignment, ensure consistency, and communicate your design rationale.
  • You’ll be a thought partner to Product Managers, building product strategy and roadmaps together.
  • You will mentor other designers and help them understand the strategic framework of their work.

What you should bring:

  • Minimum 7+ years experience with end-to-end product design in a start-up, SMB, large company with a digital offering, or design consulting agency;
  • An outstanding problem-solving mindset, focusing on outcomes and not output, and applying qualitative and quantitative methods to validate hypothesis;
  • Proven track-record in leading large and complex design projects that demonstrate a human-centered approach and high-quality deliverables;
  • Examples that demonstrate a refined ability to contribute to visual design, including branding, composition, and UI components;
  • In-depth familiarity with designing for multiple platforms, including Web, iOS, and Android, with approaches and methodologies such as responsive design or mobile-first;
  • Demonstrable proficiency in bringing ideas to life through prototyping from simple click-thru mock-ups to higher fidelity functional proofs-of-concept;
  • Superlative presentation and communication skills, from presenting design concepts and final designs, to articulating the decision rationale behind them, to building a product vision;
  • Complete ownership of and autonomy in managing your own workstream and the workstream of more junior designers;
  • Extensive experience working closely within cross-disciplinary product teams, including Product Managers and Engineers. A history of strong communication and collaboration with other functional roles is essential;
  • A deep understanding of how UX impacts business objectives and KPIs.
