Lead Product Designer - Toast Payroll

The Toast Payroll team is responsible for a portfolio of products to support restaurant staff  ​​as well as the people, tools, and processes that restaurants need to hire, retain, and pay their employees. We are looking for a Lead Product Designer with a strong portfolio demonstrating a balance of user goals and business objectives to deliver intuitive experiences that “do right by the customer.” 

You are passionate about improving the experience of everyone working in a restaurant. You’re a systems thinker who  loves untangling and making sense of complex problems that span human, digital and physical interactions. You will be working with your product and business partners to bring a design perspective to product strategy and roadmapping discussions. You will use assets like journey maps and service blueprints to uncover the most impactful problems to solve and design holistic user experiences. You will work with a small team of designers to bring the product vision to life and coach them along the way. You are an experienced leader dedicated to Toast’s mission:  helping restaurants do what they love and thrive. 

About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

• Lead your teams as a design expert alongside your triad (Tech Lead, Design Lead, and Product Management) to explore ambiguous problem spaces, evolve the product strategy, and deliver customer value
• Plan and execute user research studies that generate insights to positively impact product design
• Leverage user data and analytics to inform product design decisions
• Facilitate collaborative sessions and bring a design thinking mindset to the team
• Navigate complexity to design simple, intuitive experiences for journeys that span across the Toast platform
• Communicate across teams with partners in Product Marketing, UI Design, Customer Care, Sales, and more
• Guide and mentor a team of designers through activities like regular design reviews, pair designing, and group brainstorming
• Launch features that help restaurants outperform their peers and ensure restaurant employees have successful careers

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

• 5+ years experience with demonstrated ability to create a solution that is embedded in a larger complex system and connect to a broader product vision
• Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills with an ability to build trusting relationships both within and outside of the product organization
• Experience working in an agile environment with a team including product managers and engineers
• Expertise in data-driven design with an ability to gather and leverage qualitative (e.g. UX research) and quantitative (e.g. analytics) measures of user behavior
• Comfort working in a dynamic environment with a willingness to learn new things and tackle a range of challenges as they arise
• Robust portfolio demonstrating your expertise in using an effective process to design and deliver end-to-end experiences that fulfill critical business and user opportunities

• Experience designing for SaaS platforms
• Domain expertise in payroll, HRIS, or HCM software
• Design skills related to user workflow automation
