About the Role

Working at the intersection of product excellence, customer empathy, business strategy, and have a knack for navigating regulated spaces? If so, you may be a great fit for the Head of Product Management, Mid-Market Payroll position.

Gusto has made a name for ourselves by making payroll, HR, and benefits shockingly simple for small businesses. We have been able to serve small businesses better than any other provider by taking complex tasks, simplifying them, and making them human. We see this in our NPS and customer referrals. 

Currently no payroll company is doing a great job at serving mid-market businesses. Nor are they serving these businesses with the humanity that Gusto has in the heart of everything we build. Robust payroll is critical to businesses as they grow, and Gusto is positioned to equip them with the tools needed to build and maintain a great company culture as they scale. 

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Lead a team of 3 product managers to develop comprehensive & delightful payment for our most successful, growing customers
    • Develop a deep understanding of the different customers we serve, and a how their varying needs translate into product requirements
    • Identify emerging technologies and industry trends, build business cases, and define product vision and strategy
    • Understand customer pain points, come up with solutions, and then prototype, iterate and launch frequently
    • Use data and experiments to make decisions that improve the customer experience and business metrics 
    • Create a communications framework strategy that simplifies the in-app experience for when and how we message customers, from critical messages to information on new product launches, features, or enhancements
  • Collaborate with your engineering, design, and data science partners and across cross-functional teams to ship solutions that delight customers
  • Make our customers, both employers and employees, happy 

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • 6+ years of product management, and experience leading multiple product managers
  • Able to look at the world as a bunch of systems, and then can identify patterns and efficiencies to create scalable products and delightful experiences
  • Experienced in scaling products, taking big swings, and growing the business
  • Zest for learning and first-principles thinking
  • Execution oriented and highly organized
  • Creating and growing diverse and passionate product teams
  • Empathy and kindness for the teams you work with and the customers we serve

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $182,000/yr to $247,000 in Denver & most remote locations, and $214,000/yr to $290,000/yr for San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
