About our team
The design team at Plaid is made up of product designers, design systems designers, brand designers, researchers, and content strategists who work with our cross-functional partners to create Plaid’s products & services, and deepen Plaid’s understanding of the world around it.
What you’ll do
The Head of Product Design will own the development and execution of the Product Design practice at Plaid. You’ll get to continue to define what the scope and impact of Product Designers, growing the team to increase scope and influence as well as setting the tone for a team that feels empowered to do its very best work. You’ll also get to continue to scale the Product Design team, define and establish best working processes and practices, working on understanding how to enable growth within the team and what your management team looks like. Finally, you’ll also get to contribute to the cultural growth of a rapidly scaling team, forming a key part of the Design leadership team.
What excites you
- You’ll get to lead the Product Design practice within the design team at Plaid
- You’ll work closely with leadership within the Engineering, Product and Support teams, as well as the wider Plaid organization, to advocate for design-led approaches and activities that enable product designers to have the most impact within their teams on a day to day basis
- You’ll define strategy that expands the scope and understanding of Product Design as a discipline at Plaid
- You’ll ensure that the craft and overall quality of work produced by the team is of the highest standard (including establishing standards and holding people to them)
- You’ll set the overall tone for the Product Design discipline that enables the team to create their best work, while setting aside time for play and exploration
- You’ll partner with design leadership and recruiting to plan for scale, and prioritise hiring to execute on those plans
What excites us
- Management experience (teams of 15+), including experience as a manager of managers
- Experience in scaling a team (planning and prioritisting headcount and partnering with recruiting to execute on hiring plans)
- Experience in advocating for design-led approaches at multiple levels within an organisation, but specifically with product and company leadership
- A history of excellent work that can inspire more junior designers
- Experience in managing across multiple timezones
