Head of Product Design (all genders)

The opportunity 

As the Head of Product Design at Urban Sports Club, you will report directly to the VP of Product and play a pivotal role in shaping the design vision and strategy for all our products and services. This is a leadership role, responsible for leading and in the future scaling our talented Product Design and Research team, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and driving a culture of highly converting, user-centered design. You will ensure our design efforts not only meet business objectives but also delight our diverse user base, spanning individual members, corporate clients, and wellbeing partners.
We are seeking an experienced leader who can balance strategic thinking with a hands-on approach, inspiring and mentoring the team while actively contributing to high-impact design initiatives. Your ultimate goal will be to elevate our design practice, champion customer-centricity, and deliver innovative, accessible, and cohesive experiences across all touchpoints.

Your responsibilities 

Leadership and Vision

• Lead and mentor the Product Design and Research team, fostering growth and engagement.
• Define and communicate a design vision that ensures consistency and scalability across all products.
• Partner with the VP of Product to align design goals with the company’s vision and objectives.

Execution and Delivery

• Oversee high-quality design work, from wireframes to polished deliverables.
• Maintain and evolve the design system for reusable components and cohesive patterns.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to balance user needs with business and technical goals.

User-Centered Innovation

• Ensure timely delivery of design assets, working ahead to support development cycles.
• Champion user-centered design principles and ensure solutions are informed by research.
• Use user journey maps, personas, and other tools to guide decision-making.

Continuous Improvement

• Optimize the impact of design work on key metrics like engagement and retention.
• Refine and iterate solutions post-launch based on feedback.
• Stay updated on design trends and tools to enhance team capabilities.

What you need to succeed 

Experience and Skills

• 6+ years of experience in Product Design, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Proven track record of designing and shipping web and mobile applications in a fast-paced, agile environment.
• Highly skilled at upskilling the team, enhancing their capabilities and ensuring they stay ahead of industry trends.
• Expertise in user research methodologies, design thinking, and interaction design.
• Strong portfolio showcasing innovative and impactful design solutions.
• Significant experience with design systems and scaling design practices in a matrix organisation.
• Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Strong organizational skills, balancing short-term deliverables with long-term strategic goals.
