We have barely scratched the surface on how we can use this data to help our customers design best practices, give applicants and customers the best possible user experience, use ML to automate conversations, and publicly publish our insights to the world in the middle of the tightest job market for hourly workers in 15 years.

In this job, you will be building a new function of Fountain, so building high performance teams needs to be in your DNA. You’ll have input from product design to backend eng logging.

We are a start up. The ideal candidate loves going wide (designing board conceptual frameworks) and deep (willing to go into the SQL code to find the errors on rare occasions).

This role reports directly in to the COO.

What you'll be doing:

Develop the long-term vision and strategy for a new team
Partner closely with sales, marketing, product, business operations & engineerings to influence business strategy, identify opportunities, build scalable solutions for critical problems, and evangelize the integration of data science products into systems, processes and decisions
Develop a high level of technical quality, business impact, and a relentlessly customer-focused mindset
Manage processes to help the team do its best work, collaborate in an open and inclusive environment, and engage effectively with the rest of Stripe
Recruit a talented and diverse team of data scientists and analysts, in collaboration with Fountain’s recruiting team
Develop and lead a team of data scientists and analysts, helping them advance in their careers

What you should bring:

A PhD or MS in a quantitative field (e.g., statistics, economics, sciences, mathematics, engineering) (MBA, a Plus)
5-8+ years of hands-on experience designing, building and maintaining production machine learning applications
5+ years of management experience leading and growing diverse, high-performing teams, including managing other managers
Track record of creating a positive culture that’s both supportive and challenging
Expertise in statistics, machine learning, causal inference, forecasting and/or and experimental design
Proficiency in a scientific computing language (such as R or Python) and SQL
Strong ability to solve ambiguous and complex business problems, think rigorously and make hard decisions and tradeoffs
A track record building strong collaborative relationships with business and technical partners, excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills
Exceptional ability to communicate strategy and technical concepts clearly across disciplines, organizations, and senior audiences
A can-do attitude, empathy, commitment to great results, and genuine passion for learning
Balance between intellectual curiosity and the desire to roll up your sleeves and execute
