The way consumers communicate with businesses and vice-versa is rapidly evolving and at MessageBird we enable businesses to meet growing consumer expectations. 

This is where you come in; we are looking for a Design leader that will take on the responsibility to expand the Design team and hire a diverse set of talented designers of many disciplines, skills, backgrounds and specialities. The Design team works across many types of product initiatives at MessageBird — from our applications and web products, to brand, websites and events.

As Head of Design, you will be responsible for designing, hiring and developing the Design team as well as defining our Design strategy and the role design plays within MessageBird. You’ll work closely with MessageBird’s Product-Engineering Leadership Team and will be the driving force behind our Design vision and strategy. 

What you’ll do

• You’ll be fully responsible for the Design team’s growth, development and maintaining its high performance. This includes: organisational design, hiring, developing and coordinating design reviews. 
• You will be responsible for defining the role Design plays at MessageBird, and inspiring and leading our team of designers.
• You’ll be responsible for the vision and overall success of the Design team. This includes: Product and UX Design, as part of the product development process, as well as Brand Design, where the team will work closely with Product Marketing, Sales and Customer Support.
• You’ll work closely with stakeholders to define what the role of Design is in the product-development process and in the go-to-market process.
• You will be responsible for the overall design quality and output of the Design team.
• You’ll be responsible for Product Design, UX Design and Brand Design, with the opportunity to expand the team to own other functions including UX Writing, UX Research and more.
• You’ll be working and communicating cross-functionally within distributed teams. Therefore, the ability to convince, influence, inspire and enable senior stakeholder management decisions is crucial. 

What you’ll bring

• Minimum 5+ years of Design Leadership experience. You’ll ideally come from a similar industry, working in B2B saas companies with a strong emphasis on Design.
• Excellent leadership skills with 5+ years experience as a people manager, including managing managers, structuring complex organisations and a proven track record of hiring and mentoring employees in-person and remotely. 
• A strong view on what good design means, you are detail oriented and you can clearly articulate to a variety of stakeholders what good should look like.
• You must have strong communication, storytelling and presentation skills. Strong ability to convince, influence and inspire different audiences and on all levels, including peers, executives and board.
• Evidence of building and shaping high-performing Design teams.
• Ability and personality to successfully work in a high pace, rapidly-changing environment.
