Head of Design

About the role

We are seeking a talented and creative Head of Design to lead our Product Design team at Character.AI! As Head of Design, you will be responsible for developing and executing our design strategy across all products and platforms.If you have a passion for creating innovative AI experiences, and you’re enthusiastic to lay the groundwork for our product teams to harness the power of AI, then we want to hear from you!

What you will do:

• You will lead the creation of innovative design solutions and strategies that enhance user experience, shape visual narratives that align with our business objectives, and ensure design and brand consistency across all Character.ai Product platforms.

• You will oversee the entire design process, from concept to execution, collaborating closely with Leadership, Engineering, ML/Research, Marketing, Operations and Legal teams.

• Reporting directly to the CPO, you will play a pivotal role in Character.AI’s leadership team, driving design excellence and fostering a culture of creativity and collaboration.

• You will lead, mentor, and inspire a team of talented designers, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and excellence.

What you bring:

• 10+ years of relevant experience building strategic partnerships, with at least 5 years directly managing people and teams, and ideally at a consumer software company

• Experienced in leading, building, mentoring, inspiring and coaching a team of Product Design experts at a global Product company.

• Strong understanding of the Design ecosystem and proven ability to work collaboratively with engineering, marketing and other teams to design and deliver awesome products.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical design and consumer facing product concepts to cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.

• Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills

• Expert knowledge of the AI landscape/ecosystem
