Hudl Focus is our smart camera system that gives coaches and athletes HD video of their games and practices. Captured from multiple angles, livestreamed and uploaded to their library - all without lifting a finger. We’re searching for a Product Design Intern to help us build the future of automated video capture for sports.

As an intern, you will help guide design projects across the entire product lifecycle, from finding opportunities to designing and validating solutions. You’ll work with a small multi-disciplinary team, partnering closely with engineering, product and business folks to find practical solutions to design problems. Together, you’ll solve problems and come up with solutions that delight our users. You’ll take full ownership of your work and responsibility for every last detail with support from your fellow product designers and manager. You’ll rapidly prototype and learn by making, knowing when to apply low and high fidelity.

Here are some of the things you can look forward to:

Discovery / Prototyping / Testing

  • Learn about research methods & artifacts (e.g, Interviewing, JTBD, PURE, Service Blueprints, Usability Testing).
  • Observe and participate in user interviews. Talk to a designer about how they prepare for them, and when they talk to people.
  • Conduct a usability test (5+ users) and come up with a report. Learn about when to do moderated and unmoderated tests.
  • Serve as a research assistant (involved in everything from planning, doing, and analyzing) for projects/experiments.
  • Get out in the field and test with real customers in their environment.
  • Present in a squad’s Sprint Review.

Design

  • Create prototypes in Figma. Learn to iterate based on internal and external feedback.
  • Be able to explain and defend design choices.
  • Understand when to go low-fidelity vs high-fidelity.
  • Work with Uniform to contribute to the design system. Learn more about the component development process.
  • Meet designers 1:1 to learn about their experience in the field and what product design means to them.
  • Participate in design critiques as presenter & reviewer.
  • Working with a designer on their activities for the sprint.
  • Participating in standups, sprint planning and refinements for your squad.
  • Meet with one person from each major function (PM, SM, Dev, QA) and learn more about what they do.

You Will

  • Are interested in and have experience with designing for mobile, web, or connected devices.
  • Excel in giving and receiving respectfully blunt feedback and critique.
  • Understand that constraints factor into every design choice.
  • Have a solid design process that puts the user front and center.
  • Work with stakeholders and others in a multidisciplinary team to define requirements and develop the solution.
  • Have the communication skills to help set up frameworks and brainstorm initial design concepts.
  • Are constantly looking to hone your design skills through user feedback, hands-on user research, or by designing options for an A/B test.
  • Have an online portfolio, or PDF that you can share with us. A link to your online portfolio, or a PDF, is required. Applications without a portfolio are unlikely to be considered. Portfolios could include research findings, prototypes, sketches, wireframes, or general ideation.

We Will

  • Treat you like a full-time employee. You're part of the team—that means you'll have real responsibilities and the opportunity to make a big impact at Hudl. We want to hear what you think and will often ask you to weigh in on team decisions.
  • Supply you with tools for success. We've invested in our office spaces, designing them with our employees in mind. You’ll have the enriching, flexible environment and powerful hardware you need to do your job well.
  • Provide career growth. Our internships are a great complement to your degree. We offer year-round internship experiences with the potential to extend over the course of your educational career.
