(Fully Remote) User Researcher

We love talking to our users — we think it's crucial to building a great product. That's why we've been doing user research ever since we started VEED. Many people across our team talk to our users frequently — that's not just something we say to look cool, we actually do it! Almost everything we do is deeply influenced by our discussions with customers, from our recently launched Transitions feature to how we position the product on our marketing pages.

Because we've been growing quite a bit, we're now looking to hire our first full-time user researcher. This is something we've wanted for a while — we're so excited to have someone fully dedicated to understanding our users: someone who can go super deep and talk to our users all the time. We'll be starting off with just one researcher, so this is a pretty wide-reaching (and exciting!) role.

Who we are:

VEED.IO is an online video editing platform that makes creating videos easy and accessible to everyone. Millions of creators around the world use our products to tell stories, create content, grow their audience and more (hey, you might even know some of them!)

We're at a super interesting stage right now: 18 months ago we had no staff and no money, and now things are going pretty well. We're at $6M ARR, 40+ people, and we're one of the most popular video editors in the world. As our userbase grows, so does our talented team — we'd love for you to be a part of that journey.

Some of the things you'll be doing:

• Talking to our users regularly — This will be the most important part of your job. You'll be talking to VEED's customers on a regular basis to ensure the insights keep coming. Sometimes you'll chat to users on your own, and sometimes you'll be joined by other members of our team. Feel free to call this "rolling research".
• Help product teams with research — Sometimes our teams need help with a certain project — designing our new Templates feature, for example, or working out how to encourage people to share videos more. You will help with facilitating research (focus groups, usability testing — whatever's best for the project!) and working closely with the team to ensure they have the insights they need to make well-informed decisions.
• Figuring out who our users are — We use user research at every level, from figuring out tiny interaction details to setting our entire product vision. Besides the rolling, project-based research, we want you to dive deep to understand our users, their needs, and the wider market. This will help us answer bigger strategic questions like "What will video be used for in 5 years' time?" or "How do we make a product that feels like magic to our users?"
• Last but not least — since you'll be our first user researcher, there's a lot of room to shape the role yourself: We don't 100% know what user research will be like at VEED, so you can help us to figure that out as well.

Who you are:

• You're infinitely curious — ****You enjoy going as deep as you can in your research. You love answering questions with new questions, and you feel like research is never finished. If you like the sound of that, we like the sound of you :)
• You get energy from talking to strangers — Your days will involve a lot of calls, and you'll be talking to our users regularly, so it's important that you enjoy it. Don't worry, they're all super-friendly and cool!
• You're a great collaborator — Even though you'll be our only user researcher, you won't be working alone — you'll be collaborating closely with our designers, product managers, and other relevant stakeholders in the team. You can formulate your insights well, and explain research in a way that everyone can act on it.
• You're self-driven — Since you'll be our first researcher, there won't be any processes, protocols or people in place that tell you what to do. You can figure out how you do your job well, and you are comfortable in ambiguous environments.
