Sonatype seeks a proven Design Leader to grow our people and products as we scale our Product Design practice. They will champion Design Thinking and the voice of the customer in every room. This role will lead strategy and execution for a growing distributed team of designers, UX researchers, and research ops who enable our product org to build high-value, easy-to-use, inclusive experiences from our self-service guidelines, reusable components, and research insights.

What You'll Do

Provide direction, inspiration, empowerment, and support to a globally distributed extraordinary team of designers and writers.
Collaborate with partners across the company to identify and prioritize impactful design system investments that enhance the experience and accessibility of our products.
Build strong relationships with multi-functional partners; elevate the voice of the customer through UX research insights.
Establish/evolve processes as vital to support the growth of your team and the pursuit of achievable, measurable, and high-value user experience goals; measure and monitor progress and performance against business, product, and UX objectives.
Ensure design quality and consistency by practicing and fostering a culture of feedback and growth.
Work closely with leadership around staffing, planning, and operational design with a sharp focus on driving a high-performance culture
Be a champion of design thinking across the org; identity/facilitate opportunities for yourself and the Product Design team to spread design thinking and enthusiasm across Sonatype.

What You Bring

3+ years of experience managing and mentoring teams that work cross-functionally with engineering and product management
10+ years of experience as a practitioner in several core areas of product design, such as information architecture, accessibility, UI design, user research, design thinking, content strategy, and interaction design.
Experience crafting and maintaining accessible component libraries/design systems or leading teams that do the same
Experience driving organizational change with cross-functional team members
A business outcomes understanding of Design and Technical Writing with expertise in creating and supporting business case creation for Design and Product initiatives
A holistic view of design’s role in shaping strategic and operational product and UX outcomes
A passion for building and supporting diverse teams with various experiences, backgrounds, and interests.
Enthusiasm for the future of UX and the courage to lead and pursue forward-thinking design while creating space for team-led innovation
Transparency, authenticity, and empathy
Preferred: Experience working with enterprise software/developer tools, or technical background
