Kickstarter, PBC, is seeking a Director of Product Design to lead our team of product designers and UX writers, drive our product design process, and contribute to product vision and strategy.
About the Team
The Kickstarter Product Design team is responsible for a consistent, beautiful, and usable experience across Web, iOS, and Android. We collaboratively design new experiences, maintain existing ones, and explore solutions-based quantitative and qualitative research. We are small and scrappy but mighty and find innovative ways to work efficiently and effectively scale our work. In support of Kickstarter’s mission to “help bring creative projects to life,” we keep our fingers on the pulse of backer and creator feedback, and advocate for the best experience possible for a given scope. We believe in the value of design systems, inclusive design, and bold expression.
In This Role, You Will:
- Lead a team of product designers and UX writers, identifying career growth opportunities for team members as well as coaching and mentoring along the way. Your success will be measured by your team’s success.
- Work closely with engineering and product management to ensure projects are supported and successful.
- Drive product design strategy with an eye towards long-term sustainability and growth.
- Identify opportunities to improve our design process at all phases, from ideation to validation to execution and iteration.
- Create and support a vision for the product design team.
- Occasionally act as an individual contributor to fill in resourcing gaps. A user journey needs to be outlined, we need low-fidelity designs to support a major initiative, This should be infrequent but may be an occasional part of the job.
About You
- You have professional experience managing product designers (at least three direct reports).
- You are a strategic, holistic product design leader who is able to creatively find solutions for complex problems.
- You’re comfortable being a player / coach and putting your team first.
- You are a champion for accessible, reusable, and scalable design.
- You are not comfortable rolling up your sleeves and engaging with tactical product design work from time to time.
- You know how to partner effectively with other managerial stakeholders across engineering, insights, and product to bring a product vision to life.
- You empathize with creators, backers, and the challenges of bringing creative projects to life.
What You'll Enjoy:
- Fridays off! Kickstarter is currently experimenting with a 4-day/32-hour workweek pilot so that we can all enjoy long weekends
- A fully remote workforce with plenty of opportunities to get to know your colleagues
- 100% employer-paid health plan offerings
- 16 paid vacation days, 10 sick days, and a company-wide winter break between Christmas and New Years
- 25 volunteer hours each year to give back to your community
- 16 weeks of parental leave plus fertility/family planning resources
- Incredibly talented and inspiring colleagues who know how to blend their creative endeavors into their work
