We are Future Friendly — a strategic product design & innovation team that improves lives through the design and development of everyday services.
Our unique combination of strategic design and product development allows us to define new propositions, and design, build and launch new services.
We work across Government, Finance, Insurance, Education, Energy and Health to tackle a wide range of problems, and create real impact. See some of our work.
We were awarded the Design Institute of Australia Award 2020, and just this year our work has won 8 Good Design Awards.

Product Design at Future Friendly
Product design at Future Friendly covers the full spectrum — from defining new propositions to designing and launching digital products. Everything is tested with real people, and launched to market.
Product designers lead two parts of our process.
The rapid prototyping and validation of new propositions.
We don’t conduct focus groups or endless user research. The quickest way to learn is by making, so we create tangible, high-fidelity prototypes to build evidence in new propositions.
The creation of production-ready designs.
Defining propositions isn’t enough. To make real change, we need to put things live. Quickly. We don’t create high-maintenance complex design systems. Instead we work closely with developers to design, build, and launch new products.
Requirements
The role day-to-day
As a digital designer, you will work in a small, multidisciplinary team (product management, strategy, design, & development) to;
- Understand customer and business problems to inform the design of new digital products.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to co-design potential solutions.
- Work alongside strategists to identify underlying assumptions, and design experiments to validate them.
- Make potential opportunities tangible with rapid prototypes — then test them with real customers.
- Synthesise key insights from testing, communicate them to stakeholders, use them to inform decisions, and iterate designs.
- Create polished, production-ready designs of new digital products and work alongside developers to bring them to life.
- Present your work. Shape presentations to communicate the strategic product direction, and the why behind design decisions.
Skills you’ll need
- Rapid prototyping — able to quickly translate ideas into tangible prototypes.
- Product thinking — able to understand problems, spot significance in research, and apply these to your designs.
- UX design — a strong understanding of common UX patterns, and how they should be applied in practice.
- UI design — able to create polished, production-ready designs, backed by consistent, scalable design systems.
- Interaction design — go beyond static mock-ups and craft polished interactive prototypes.
- Information architecture — able to make sense of complex sets of information, and structure it in a logical way.
- Written and verbal communication — able to clearly communicate concepts simply, both in designs and prototypes, as well as client presentations
- Visual communication — able to simplify and clearly communicate complex concepts visually.
Software & tools
You’ll be comfortable working with a modern product design toolset.Our essential, day-to-day tools are;
- Figma — for rapid prototyping and day-to-day design work
- Sketch — for clients who don’t use Figma
- Google Slides — For presentations and other things that aren’t product design.
We also use;
- Other prototyping and interaction design tools (Framer, proto.io, etc) — for creating higher-fidelity prototypes
- Web tech/tools (HTML, CSS, JS) — for building data-driven prototypes
- Motion graphics/video tools (After Effects, Premier) — for creating motion mockups & vision videos.
