Design Systems Manager

About the Team:
Our Product Design team is organized into a series of product pillars, where multiple teams contribute to the goals of a larger mission. This role sits within the Design Systems pillar which is a dedicated group of specialized designers and engineers defining foundational elements, components, and patterns to support designers and engineers. We support consumers of the system with feedback, guidelines, tooling and training. Our Design Systems team plays a crucial role in ensuring consistency, efficiency, and excellence across our product portfolio.

About the Role:

We are seeking a talented and experienced Design System Manager to lead and evolve our design system, empowering our designers and engineers to create remarkable products. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a team of designers and be responsible for craft, quality and consistency of the work and system. You are expected to utilize your full range of people management skills, product strategy, product design, interaction design, and visual design skills to help guide the team to build a great design system that addresses our user’s ever growing needs.

How You'll Have an Impact

• Build and manage a talented and diverse team of designers working on Klaviyo’s Ascent Design System
• Define and drive the roadmap to deliver measurable results
• Lead and coordinate multiple complex projects at the same time
• Drive process improvements, from creation to adoption
• Contribute to building Klaviyo’s design culture

What You’ll Need

• 8+ years of professional design experience
• Experience with mentoring, coaching, or managing a high performing, inclusive, and diverse Design System team
• Demonstrable track record of crafting and successfully executing against a Design System strategy with measurable impact
• Ability to think big, but can also easily prioritize and break things into meaningful tasks, milestones and roadmaps
• Treats stakeholders like customers and the design system like a product, identifying problems and root causes, managing priorities and expectations, providing solutions, and measuring success
• The flexibility to be a great collaborator in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication & storytelling skills

Nice to Have:

• Localization experience is a plus
• Experience designing and testing WCAG-compliant, accessible interfaces
• Understanding of front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and their impact on design system implementation.
