Our mission at Duolingo is to develop the best education in the world and make it universally available. But we’ve got more left to do — and that's where you come in!

Duolingo is the most popular language-learning application in the world, with over 500 million users and over half a billion exercises completed daily. Beyond our core learning product, we have also entered into literacy with Duolingo ABC and English proficiency testing with the Duolingo English Test.

We are passionate about educating our users, making fact-based decisions, and finding innovative solutions to complex problems. We offer meaningful work, limitless learning opportunities, and collaboration with world-class minds. Come brighten your life and over half a billion more!

As a Design Program Manager in our Monetization area, you'll support a team of product designers, user researchers, and content designers to build features that elevate our subscription product, Duolingo Plus. You will partner with teams to develop and lead highly-complex programs through the product design lifecycle—ensuring that the right people are involved at the right times, delivering great work promptly and consistently.

As Duolingo continues to grow, this person will optimize existing design processes and build better workflows that scale across teams and the greater org.

This role reports to a Staff Design Program Manager as a member of Design—the instrumental creative partner in most projects at Duolingo. From our mobile apps and website, to our beloved brand, to community and experiential events—we take pride in, and agonize over, crafting a user-friendly (and fun) experience for everyone.

Will you join us on our mission?

  • Establish programs for designers to create and ship work that meets Duolingo’s user experience and quality standards; always putting our Learners first
  • Serve as the nucleus around which project contributors orbit, including product designers, product managers and other XFN partners
  • Represent Design’s voice in cross-functional quarterly (OKR) planning
  • Coordinate with design and technical teams to define and map project scopes
  • Ruthlessly prioritize available resources—load balancing design’s bandwidth in order to deliver world-class work where it matters most
  • Advocate for designers’ perspectives and wellbeing
  • Remove roadblocks and rally teams towards progress
  • Always be on the lookout for ways to create efficiencies: implementing scalable & repeatable processes, improving team rhythm/collaboration/communication, etc.
  • Own process documentation: establishing project requirements and recording valuable findings and data
  • Coordinate and own operational budgets and external vendor relationships for the Design team
  • Plan for and run project meetings: including kick-offs, critiques, check-ins and weekly team syncs
  • Collaborate with fellow DPgMs in other areas to connect teams across large-scale, impactful design initiatives

You have...

  • Worked as a Producer or Program Manager on an in-house Product Design or UX team
  • Experience working with designers & product teams on strategic metrics-based initiatives
  • Track record of operating independently and without oversight in a fast-paced environment
  • Meticulous sense of organization, with a passion for operational excellence
  • Effective and efficient communication skills
  • The ability to relocate to New York, NY

Outstanding candidates will have...

  • Developed or improved design processes & systems that plug in with collaborators such as Product, UXR, Engineering, etc.
  • A strong sense for visual design, mobile UI convention and user empathy
  • Experience using Figma
  • Hyper vigilant attention to detail
  • A desire to synthesize ambiguity into action
