About Faire

Faire is an online wholesale marketplace built on the belief that the future is local — there are over 2 million independent retailers in North America and Europe doing more than $2 trillion in revenue. At Faire, we're using the power of tech, data, and machine learning to connect this thriving community of entrepreneurs across the globe. Picture your favorite boutique in town — we help them discover the best products from around the world to sell in their stores. With the right tools and insights, we believe that we can level the playing field so that small businesses everywhere can compete with these big box and e-commerce giants.

By supporting the growth of independent businesses, Faire is driving positive economic impact in local communities, globally. We’re looking for smart, resourceful and passionate people to join us as we power the shop local movement. If you believe in community, come join ours.

About this role

Design Ops at Faire owns and scales processes and programs that enable the Design team to be efficient and effective as we rapidly grow. The Design Ops team is responsible for managing programs focused on our people, business, and product—all of which help shape and drive the Design team’s craft, culture, and priorities. As a founding member of the Design Ops team, you will assess and define ways to improve operations for our product and design systems team. You will be a key owner in scaling and shaping the future of the Design org at Faire.

We’re looking for team members who are kind, collaborative, have a bias to action, and excel at developing creative solutions that will ensure a best-in-class Design org.

This role can be remote, or has flexible options in one of our offices in San Francisco, CA, Los Angeles, CA, New York City, NY, Atlanta, GA, Toronto, ON, or Kitchener, ON.

What you’ll do

  • As the first Design Program Manager dedicated to product, you’ll partner with Product Design leadership to establish efficient team operations and programs that support Faire’s product design processes and design system, Slate.
  • Assess and prioritize opportunities to improve the product design process in collaboration with Design and cross-functional partners (Engineering, Product Management, etc.), creating scalable toolkits and playbooks for teams to leverage.
  • Lead and drive key design quality initiatives across the Design org.
  • Evaluate and improve on how Design does quarterly roadmapping, and lead planning for the Design Systems team.
  • In partnership with Design Systems leadership, establish a system for tracking progress that the team can own and manage independently.
  • Enable continuous process improvement, by driving cross team retrospectives, documenting learnings, and making meaningful changes for future efforts that ensure we can operate at quality.
  • Prioritize competing and shifting needs with good reasoning and creative solutions.
  • See around corners and proactively problem solve.
  • Contribute best practices with the Design Ops team to drive team-wide excellence.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years as a program or project manager, with hands-on experience in product development, working directly with Product Design, Engineering, and Product Management.
  • Strong relationship management, including team leadership and stakeholder management.
  • Strategic leader, with the ability to see gaps and opportunities in the way a team operates, be self directed and able to navigate through ambiguity.
  • Expert of the user-centered design process. Ability to understand needs, brainstorm ideas, execute quickly and be resourceful.
  • Growth mindset, open and receptive to feedback, and can adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment. You’re focused on maximizing impact for your programs, and the Design org as a whole.
  • Clear communicator. Effective, clear and proactive communicator with the ability to present and inspire, drive alignment, and build support.
  • Lead through influence. You strike a balance between leading and guiding teams, leveraging your knowledge and expertise to influence.
  • Champion of diversity. You understand and advocate for the impact of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in Design.
  • Tools savvy. Working knowledge of common project management tools (Asana, Notion, G Suite, etc.) and knowing when to use one tool over the other. Experience working with design and creative tooling is a plus.

Faire’s flexible work model aims to meet the needs of our diverse employee community by making work more flexible, connected, and inclusive. Depending on the role and needs of the team, Faire employees have the flexibility to choose how they work–whether that’s mainly in the office, remotely, or a mix of both.

Roles that list only a country in the location are eligible for fully remote work in that country or in- office work at a Faire office in that country, provided employees are located in the registered country/province/state. Roles with only a city location are eligible for in-office or hybrid office work in that city. Our talent team will work with candidates to determine what locations and roles are eligible for each option.
