Duolingo Design Program Managers are the hinge on which a project swings from great idea to reality.

This role reports to a Staff Design Program Manager as a member of the Design team: the instrumental creative partner in most projects at Duolingo. From those that go directly into our mobile apps and website, to ones that shape our brand voice and identity, to community and experiential events—at Duolingo we take pride in, and agonize over, crafting a user-friendly (and fun) experience for everyone.

You will join a growing team of program managers bringing Design Studio projects to life for illustrators, animators, brand designers and experience designers. Your job will be to distill creative challenges into plans, create the space for artists to ideate and explore, organize teams shepherd them through the stages of production, and keep everyone engaged and in the loop in order to deliver great work efficiently and consistently.

You will…

  • Establish programs for Design Studio creatives to produce and ship work that meets Duolingo’s user experience and quality standards; always putting our Learners first
  • Collaborate with various artist teams (Experience Designers, Animation Ops, Artist Managers, Brand Designers) to align on project scope and approach—resources, deliverables, timelines, etc.
  • Establish project requirements through briefs and project plans, and record valuable findings/data along the way
  • Oversee day-to-day production of projects: identifying + managing vendors, scheduling kick-offs and running weekly syncs, tracking timelines and budgets, compiling feedback and supporting artists as they implement, comm’sing status to the broader team
  • Advocate for the work, and for artists’ perspectives and wellbeing
  • Remove roadblocks and rally teams towards progress
  • Always be on the lookout for ways to create efficiencies: implementing scalable & repeatable processes, improving team rhythm/collaboration/communication, etc.
  • Coordinate and own budgets for external vendors
  • Collaborate with fellow Design Program Managers to connect teams across large-scale, impactful design initiatives

You have...

  • Worked as an interactive/non-traditional producer at a creative agency, production studio or in-house team
  • Experience working with creative teams on expansive projects
  • Knowledge of the animation process
  • Experience with event production, stage production, physical installations, or fabrication
  • Track record of operating independently and without oversight in a fast-paced environment
  • Meticulous sense of organization, with a passion for operational excellence
  • Effective and efficient interpersonal skills
  • The ability to relocate to Pittsburgh, PA

Outstanding candidates will have...

  • Experience in consumer tech
  • A strong vendor/production network
  • A strong sense for visual design, mobile UI convention and user empathy
  • A desire to synthesize ambiguity into action

We will do everything we can within reason to make sure that your interview takes place in an environment that fairly and accurately assesses your skills. If you need assistance or accommodation, please contact your recruiter.
