We're headquartered in San Francisco, but we're building a remote-friendly team across the continental US. We were founded in 2019, and we last raised a $40M Series B in 2021. You’re joining us at an exciting time in our journey. Currently we are a team of just two designers, at a company where Design has an impact on the entire customer journey. From our software, to our physical cards, processes, and beyond. There is so much surface area to cover!

We value ownership, diverse perspectives, and close collaboration. We recognize the importance of getting details right, but also cultivate a culture of iteration and shipping quickly. Our company is at an early stage and there is so much to do, but we never lose sight of our long-term ambitions. The Role

We’re looking for our first Design Manager to lead our team of two talented designers and help improve our end-to-end product experience.

You’ll be a key contributor to our company and product strategy, and help us foster a design-led and human-centered culture. This is a great opportunity for someone who gets energized contributing directly to the product and wants to continue to grow their leadership experience.

You’ll collaborate closely with product, engineering, and cross-functional teams to define strategy and execute on our direction. You’ll advocate with customer needs in mind to create high-quality experiences that will continue to raise our standards when it comes to product and craft. You’ll help shape a design culture that’s collaborative, fun, and ambitious.

The Responsibilities

  • Lead design direction and strategic thinking as we refine our product, identifying opportunities and making decisions based on customer and company impact.
  • Foster an environment with exceptional design standards and execution.
  • Support designers with regular feedback and career growth opportunities.
  • Lead projects as an individual designer, continuing to hone and demonstrate your craft.
  • Help develop our process around research and data

What we're looking for

  • Prior management experience in design organizations that have shipped software to consumers, especially taking a lead role in strategy and execution.
  • Strong affinity to mentor designers and empower them to do their best work.
  • Track record of ideating, building, and shipping products as an individual contributor.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex ideas through verbal and written communication.
  • Experience at a product-led startup is preferred.
  • Experience in these areas is more important to us than a specific # of years of experience, but we expect most people to need a combination of individual design experience and at least 3 years of management experience.

Location

We're headquartered in San Francisco, CA, with a beautiful office in the Mission District (near Dolores Park). We welcome employees who want to work from this office; we offer additional benefits to those who do (see below), and relocation assistance to those who'd like to.

We are hiring remotely across the continental US for most roles. We work hard to create a first-class, remote-friendly environment, with an additional benefit for remote employees, too (see below).

We regularly bring our team together for offsites & trips, about every 2 months, both for fun and for work. We cover all travel & lodging in these cases.

Compensation

This role has an annual starting salary range of $170,000 - $190,000 + equity + benefits (see above). Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, and specific work location.
