Responsibilities

We are looking for a Design Lead (Build and Manage workflows). As a core product functionality, this role will have the biggest impact on defining Workato’s ease of use and growth. It is perfect for someone who enjoys working on complex requirements, is comfortable delving into data structures, schemas and APIs, and can design scalable solutions. This role will start as being a player-coach where you will actively design and manage 2-3 designers. As work requirements increase, you’ll be expected to hire and grow your team. This is a remote role, and candidates based anywhere in USA, Russia, Portugal, Barcelona or Singapore are welcome to apply!

  • Direct our efforts in creating a world class workflow builder, and a system to manage automations

  • Ensure that people are able to easily and quickly build simple workflows, and when they are ready to do more, the same product is also able to support their complex technical requirements.

  • Empower people to identify the health of their automations, manage their deployment lifecycles, and put effective governance policies in place.

  • Drive an end-to-end intuitive user experience for Workato’s workflow builder, and automation management experiences. This includes collaborating closely with the product managers to define the product scope, possibilities and context. Once defined, develop low and high fidelity mockups and prototypes to effectively articulate your design decisions.

  • Grow and manage the designers currently in your team. Hire more designers based on requirements.

  • Work in close collaboration with other researchers, designers, writers, and UI engineers to create a product that has low friction for adoption and is delightful to use

  • Produce polished visual design specs that are clear and directed.

  • Iterate through design feedback from internal stakeholders and customers.

  • Own features that you and your team are working on. Think through edge-cases, refine specs, find reasonable design solutions, and work with engineers to build them. Understand the current landscape of Workato, and create designs that fit flawlessly in a user's journey.

  • Leverage analytics tools to measure success, present opportunities, and support decision-making.

  • Be a constant user advocate in every aspect of your work.

Requirements

Qualifications / Experience / Technical Skills

  • 5-7 years of experience designing complex products. Previous experience designing a workflow builder, or working with APIs, or integration products is strongly preferred.

  • A strong portfolio or a case study of your past work that details your challenges, ideas, and impact. We are specifically looking for projects that went into production where you’ve distilled a complex problem into a simple interface. What were your considerations/constraints? What was the impact of your work? As this is a lead role, your projects should show that you’re capable of leading designs on full features, including scoping requirements, and demonstrate that you are capable of understanding systems.

  • Experience mentoring junior designers and contributing in developing the design practice within an organization.

Soft Skills / Personal Characteristics

  • A solid grasp of user-centered design and testing methodologies. Ability to define research questions and work with our User Researcher on best methods to answer them.

  • Ability to effectively present designs to stakeholders, and rally them to a shared vision. All design decisions should be grounded in design/psych theories/ research/ analytics.

  • Awareness of current and upcoming design patterns and the ability to critique them.

  • Ability to function independently, be self-directed and to thrive in ambiguity.

  • Team player, willing to help and share knowledge with team members, open to feedback and constructive criticism.

Benefits

All full-time regular employees will be eligible for the following benefits:

  • Workato Stock Options at one of Silicon Valley’s fastest growing startups
