We are looking for a Brand Designer to join the Brand Studio wing of our Brand and Marketing Design team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing graphic assets and branded experiences for GitHub’s developer, enterprise, and student audiences. You’ll work to translate visual identities into effective campaigns, artifacts, experiences, and branded themes. Collaboration is the key to GitHub’s success, and you will work closely with other designers, illustrators, project managers, engineers, and marketing team stakeholders to propose design solutions and ensure a successful outcome.

What we're looking for:

Designers at GitHub are expert individual contributors; they are given a lot of autonomy and trust to work on our most impactful projects. For this specific role, we're looking for someone who values the following:

  • Systems thinking: Our team has to apply decisions holistically, making sure to look at new patterns in context to the larger system of the brand, design system, and  product, as well as ensuring we support experiences for individual features.
  • Inclusive design: GitHub is a home for all developers and our design system brand should reflect that. This means including and learning from people with a range of perspectives. Designing for inclusivity first can lead us to solve problems for the many and open up our product for more people.
  • Creating together: Getting to the right result is our focus. This can come from illustrators, designers, or site engineers — and ideally everyone. Facilitating collaboration between teams and individuals is key so that we continue to evolve our design system and our work alongside the needs of our customers.
  • Progress and impact: Our team often works on the meta and so it's easy to get caught up in the design details. We have to be mindful of this and ensure we keep making decisions and moving forward. This means being solutions-oriented and prioritizing progress over correctness when it's the right call.
  • Candidness: We encourage candidness and recognize its role in building trust between managers and reports and with peers and leadership. It can take time and effort to get there, but it's worth it. Making decisions for projects, design patterns, and processes will yield better results when we can get to the “real talk”.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with design leaders to execute on a vision for the future of GitHub’s brand and visual strategy.
  • Partner closely with product designers and marketers to develop graphic assets leveraging patterns, illustrations, iconography, and motion guidelines.
  • Provide regular, direct, and impactful feedback in design reviews with your teammates to ensure high-quality execution and continuously up-level the team’s design output.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand the business need and translate goals into effective design work.
  • Use, contribute to, and evolve GitHub's design system and brand guidelines to ensure consistency across our web properties, campaigns, and presentations.
  • Produce thumbnails, sketches, and prototypes to present a concept to stakeholders and gather feedback to improve your work.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience working within brand identity systems.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates masterful understanding and application of layout, color, and typography.
  • A strong body of marketing and/or product design work that tells a compelling and consistent story about a product, business, or initiative.
  • Experience both working within established design systems as well as evolving them.
  • Experience collaborating closely with non-designers and bringing design thinking and processes to a wider team or organization.
  • Experience in fast-paced environments and an ability to estimate, balance, and adhere to complex timelines.
  • Ability to work in an autonomous, remote-friendly environment where communication and collaboration are frequently asynchronous and in writing.

(Colorado only*) Minimum salary of $90,700 to maximum $192,400 + bonus + equity + benefits.
· Note: Disclosure as required by sb19-085 (8-5-20) of the minimum salary compensation for this role when being hired in Colorado.
