Recidiviz is thrilled to be hiring an Associate Product Marketing Manager to join our team! We’re a small, fast-moving group that is crafting new narratives about what is possible in the criminal justice system. That’s where you come in. We’re looking for a passionate storyteller and creative strategist to help us spread the word about our technology and its impact on building more just communities. You'll play a key role in developing impactful marketing materials and campaigns that showcase the value of Recidiviz to diverse audiences.

About us

Recidiviz is creating safer, healthier communities by improving outcomes for people in the criminal justice system. We build technology to reduce the number of people in prison and to help criminal justice leaders embrace data-driven decision-making.

Using software tools and thoughtful product design, we’ve been able to safely and permanently reduce incarceration and improve outcomes. We work side-by-side with leaders of the criminal justice system, people in prison and on supervision, and ecosystem partners to build a better path forward. In addition to the revenue we earn from state partners, some of the most respected philanthropists and foundations support our work.

People who succeed at Recidiviz lead with kindness and humility, assume good intent, learn from failure, and fix problems when they see them. They are excited to work arm in arm with government leadership and staff to improve outcomes. They are great listeners. They build deep relationships with and empathy for the people we work with and the people who our mission serves, even when those two groups feel at odds.

About the role

As an Associate Product Marketing Manager at Recidiviz, you’ll shape the story of our products for the criminal justice system. You’ll craft compelling narratives and create impactful marketing materials that illustrate their value to diverse audiences, including state agencies and policy leaders. This role is highly collaborative, partnering with teammates across product, growth, and state partnerships to grow the reach and adoption of our tools to accelerate people out of the system.

Travel within the U.S. is required approximately 1-2 x a quarter to meet state partners and for in-person team collaboration.

Core responsibilities

  • Champion our Products: Develop impactful product positioning and messaging that resonates with criminal justice leaders and positions Recidiviz as a thought leader in corrections and govtech.
  • Empower State Partnerships and Growth: Create high-quality marketing collateral (one-pagers, case studies, presentations, website content) to support business development, state engagement, and product growth initiatives.
  • Launch New Products and Features: Collaborate with the product team to develop and execute go-to-market strategies for new offerings, such as AI-enabled features and tools for people in prison, ensuring successful adoption and impactful rollout.
  • Develop Compelling Stories: Change minds and drive action by sourcing and sharing the real-world stories of how Recidiviz’s products are improving the lives of people throughout the criminal justice system.
  • Become a Recidiviz Expert: Deeply understand our products, target audiences, and the evolving landscape of corrections technology through market research, customer interaction, and collaboration with internal teams.

Wild success

Here are a few things you might accomplish in your first year at Recidiviz that would demonstrate wild success in this role:

  • Launch a new product with strong adoption rates: Successfully position and launch a new Recidiviz product with strong adoption rates across multiple states.
  • Own the content arc of the annual Recidiviz Partner Summit: Lead the development and execution of a content strategy for our flagship thought leadership event, ensuring a high-impact experience for attendees.

Minimum qualifications

  • Exceptional communication skills: You possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear and concise messaging.
  • Collaborative spirit: You thrive in a team environment and excel at building strong relationships with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Proactive and results-oriented: You are a self-starter who takes initiative, identifies opportunities, and drives projects to completion.
  • Passion for technology: You are excited about technology and its potential to drive positive change. You are eager to learn about new technologies and can grasp technical concepts with ease.
  • Strong analytical skills: Able to synthesize information, identify key insights, and translate data into actionable strategies.
  • 2+ years of experience in demanding roles that required communication, creative problem solving, and collaboration. While a background in B2B or govtech product marketing is the most directly transferable, successful applicants may have built these skills in product management, government, management consulting or other fields.

Preferred qualifications

  • Have a connection to the criminal justice system and/or passion for doing work that matters: You have either lived or working experience with the operations and consequences of America's criminal justice system. You don’t need to know everything about the field, but it is helpful if the design and efficacy of our criminal justice processes feel like issues that you cannot choose to ignore.
  • Experience in creating and delivering sales enablement materials, user stories, and other marketing collateral.

Compensation

Compensation is standardized based on roles and responsibilities. This ensures equitable compensation and responsible stewardship of our resources. As such, we do not negotiate compensation offers.

For hires based in the Oakland and New York City metropolitan areas, the salary for this role is $82,500. For hires based elsewhere in the United States, the salary for this role is $76,000.

What we offer

  • Effective, extremely thoughtful colleagues, working together on a mission that matters

More about Recidiviz

Recidiviz was an all-volunteer effort until early 2019, when Clementine, Andrew, and Joshua founded the organization. Since then, we’ve built an A-team of software engineers, designers, product managers and domain experts, from companies like Google, Apple, Dropbox, Opower, and Sidewalk Labs. Recidiviz was part of Y-Combinator’s 2019 class and has received support from some of the most respected philanthropists and foundations, including Ford Foundation, Mackenzie Scott, Schmidt Futures, Arnold Ventures, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, and the Mozilla Foundation.

Today, Recidiviz works with (and earns revenue from) over 15 state partners – big and small, red and blue – and covers more than 40% of the US incarcerated population. We have helped to get tens of thousands of people out of the criminal justice system, safely and equitably, and saved states nearly $1 billion. In the next five years, Recidiviz plans to partner with 40 states and help 250,000 people who are stuck in the system to get out and stay out. In addition to partnering with state Departments of Corrections, Recidiviz collaborates with and learns from partners – from organizations like the Correctional Leaders Association (CLA) to community based organizations and justice-impacted individuals, whose perspectives guide our work.
