How you’ll make an impact

As an Associate Product Manager you will be responsible for supporting customer and business valuein parts of new and existing products. You will be responsible for the TaxCycle compliance release calendar to ensure the organization can efficiently deliver throughout the tax season; seeing the product released on an agreed upon schedule with the content and feature functionality that proactively addresses taxpayer needs. You will participate in the management of products end-to-end,from early-stage research and ideation, through to implementation and improvement over time. Yourimpact will be measured by key commercial, team, and customer success metrics.

What you’ll do

  • Be responsible for the TaxCycle compliance release calendar to ensure the organization can efficiently deliver throughout the tax season; seeing the product released on an agreed upon schedule with the content and feature functionality that proactively addresses taxpayer needs
  • Plan, progress and deliver releases throughout the tax development season
  • Collaborate and plan with the Director of Product Development at TaxCycle and other key internal stakeholders
  • Participate in establishing team delivery cadence and rituals, often facilitating these
  • Utilize your knowledge in experience in determining priority updates for multiple products
  • Effectively communicate release priorities to product development team
  • Network across Xero to understand how products fit into Xero's strategy, objectives and future
  • Participate in customer research, collecting insights and validating understanding
  • Monitor and address key client issue trends or concerns
  • Use customer data and insights particularly in assessing value and viability risks, to inform product roadmap and planning
  • Participate in defining the scope of the customer problem and frame possible solutions to test, validate and refine
  • Participate in developing a strategy for the product line, to support securing funding, resourcing and leading the annual and quarterly OKR process.
  • Aid in managing risks (in line with Xero Risk Management Standard) arising from non-functional concerns including security, privacy, regulatory change and compliance, accuracy, responsible data use and availability: consulting with stakeholders and leading trade-off decisions
  • Provide input for product roadmaps to execute on the product strategy, and can manage a product to its roadmap
  • Work collaboratively with the broader product team to ensure effective and timely launches
  • Support the overall commercial & customer results of the product line, highlighting opportunities to intervene if required
  • Working alongside other members of the Product team, assist in monitoring and analyzing the ongoing performance of a product along with making recommendations/decisions in terms of required updates
  • Determine where improvements to the existing product can be made or scheduled
  • Provide support between stages of product development to ensure continuity and cohesiveness, and alignment of product to strategy and roadmap
  • Working alongside other members of the Product team, provide support for managing a product across the end-to-end lifecycle (e.g. launch through to sunset) to ensure maintenance and support throughout the life of the product
  • Support recruitment of new Xero's as required, ensuring team members are high quality, fit Xero's culture, and are on-boarded effectively

  • Demonstrate commercial acumen:
  • Identifies and estimates market / segment size in terms of potential customers
  • Articulates the product’s success criteria in appropriate forums to support team decision-making
  • Actively participates in discussions on the commercial, customer and product
  • implications of a team’s workActively engages in researching and solving client reported issues and identifies underlying trends
  • Do it together:
  • Facilitates meetings with predefined structures or scripts (e.g., stand ups, IPM’s, and retro’s) leading to clear actions for a team to progress with
  • Communicates effectively as a product evangelist across the entire product lifecycle foster alignment and buy-in to the product vision
  • Actively collaborates with other functions to drive successful collaboration on products and outcomes
  • Explore the data:
  • Conducts objective and accurate analysis, making logical and defensible inferences where data is incomplete
  • Communicates data and insights to stakeholders
  • Integrates data from multiple systems, sources, and people to deliver new insights to the team
  • Product or project management skills
  • Understanding of a software development environment
  • Experience planning and  facilitating meetings
  • Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholder groups
  • Experience with small business software desired but not a must
  • Experience in accounting/taxation industries beneficial but not a requirement
