Job Description

If you are applying from outside the Shopify careers page, please apply through our careers page (https://apm.shopify.com/) to ensure you are completing all application components.

Shopify’s Apprentice Product Manager (APM) program has the goal of opening up product opportunities to a diverse community of early talent and developing the next generation of product leaders. The 12-month rotational program aims to help aspiring product talent gain the skills they need to become a Product Manager while cultivating a supportive working community to learn from and grow alongside.

As an APM, you’ll learn by working with some of the best engineers, designers and data scientists to build impactful products that make commerce better for everyone. If you are new to the workforce or an aspiring product person looking to switch careers, this is a great opportunity for you. You’ll have the opportunity to build products that enable entrepreneurs everywhere. We’re a passionate and entrepreneurial group - come join us to do your life's best work!

The Opportunity:

  • Get the chance to build foundational knowledge of the product management craft by working with some of the best. This program is a blend of formal learning and on the job training.

  • Complete two (2) rotations where you will work full-time on Shopify Product teams shadowing Senior Product Managers and demonstrating your impact on live, in flight projects.

  • Join a small cohort of aspiring product managers aimed at being the next generation of Product Leaders at Shopify with a community of supportive peers.

  • Upon successful graduation, you’ll be eligible to continue as a full-time Product Manager at Shopify.

  • This program holds a high bar for graduates. We expect people to learn fast, iterate fast, and deliver results within the 12-month timeframe.

  • High trust and flexibility have always been a part of our culture, and if you’re expecting to be told exactly what to do, Shopify may not be the place for you. We don’t claim to have all the answers, and that’s why we look for independent thinkers, collaborators, and people hungry to grow alongside their team.

This posting will close on Wednesday, January 19th, 2022 at 11:59PM EST. Applications will be reviewed and interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis. Applications will not be accepted after the deadline.

Qualifications

  • Can explain/demonstrate why product management is the next logical step in your career and why you are passionate about the space

  • Strong interpersonal and team collaboration skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • A desire and aptitude to solve problems

  • A desire to work in an agile environment

  • A broad experience in technology would be beneficial, but not required

Experience comes in many forms, many skills are transferable, and passion goes a long way. If your experience is close to what we’re looking for, consider applying. We know that diversity of thought makes for the best problem-solving and creative thinking, which is why we’re dedicated to adding new perspectives to the team and encourage everyone to apply.

The Hiring Process:

1. Candidates that move beyond the initial application stage will be invited to a “Life Story” interview with a Shopify recruiter. The intention of the Life Story interview is to construct your own personal timeline, including decisions you’ve made, what you’re passionate about, and the path you’ve taken to bring you to where you are today. You'll be asked to submit a short video, details will be provided upon invitation to the Life Story interview.

2. After the Life Story, successful candidates will be invited to a case study interview with a Shopify Product Manager. You will be informed in advance of the interview of what to prepare and expect.

3. After the case study interview, successful candidates are placed on teams based on their interests, skills and experience. Each placement is done individually and with significant consideration.

*Timelines of decision will be clearly communicated to candidates by their recruiter throughout the process and you will always hear back from us #noghosting.
