About Us

dbt Labs was founded in 2016 to empower analysts to create and disseminate organizational knowledge. Since then, we’ve grown to become one of the leading brands in the analytics industry. Our product, dbt, is used by thousands of companies. dbt Labs is a remote-first, values-driven company with a globally distributed team. You can learn more about our values here.

Over the past few years, dbt has emerged as a critical part of the modern data stack. Today, more than 16,000 companies use dbt (3,000 are paying customers). We host a community of more than 50,000 data practitioners. We partner with key integrators across the data stack — from data platforms like Snowflake and Databricks; to BI tools like Tableau, Hex, and Mode. We have 100+ global services partners that are introducing dbt and the analytics engineering workflow to organizations of all sizes. dbt has garnered incredible community love, support, and word of mouth. This is incredible momentum, and the product marketing leader will play a key role in helping us reach our next level of growth.

This role will sit on the marketing leadership team alongside peers in revenue marketing, brand marketing, community, and marketing operations. You’ll be stepping into managing an existing team of five product marketers covering launch management, positioning & messaging, customer marketing, and collateral development.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Work closely with leaders in sales, marketing, and product to align on how we get dbt into the hands of our best-fit customers. We expect the leader of this team to wield influence across marketing, solutions architecture, partnerships, product, customer success, and sales. You will build strong relationships with leaders of these functions and both learn from and influence the direction of these orgs. To do this well, the VP of Product Marketing will need to own:
    • Positioning, messaging, and Ideal Customer Profile (ICP)
    • Pricing & packaging roadmap. The leader of this role will define a high-level roadmap getting us from current state to mature pricing model.
    • Revenue and profitability goals. The leader of this role should be able to structure quantitative arguments for why or why not to pursue a given segment, vertical, or solution.
    • Enablement materials such as core content for marketing, sales, and channel deliverables, sales tools, and sales collateral
  • Build a product marketing org that uses customer research and data to improve our answers to the most important go-to-market questions. The leader of this team will be experienced in gathering insights from customer research, voice of customers, survey data, and product analytics to always improve our understanding of key GTM questions:
    • What do we sell and to whom? (pricing, packaging, bundling)
    • What is our value proposition? (positioning, messaging, content creation)
    • How do we communicate our value prop to our Ideal Customer? (input on sales and channel strategy)
    • How do we communicate our value prop to the market? (input on global campaigns, media & analyst relations)
  • Lead a team of exceptional product marketers. This team is currently five people and will grow over the next year. The leader of this team will need to define clear goals and success metrics for a function that is challenging to measure. Success here will include:
    • Recruiting new team members
    • Structuring roles to best deliver organizational results while also developing compelling career paths for your team
    • Aligning your teams initiatives with company level OKRs
    • Developing product marketing talent

You are a good fit if you:

  • Operate as an owner. You feel a deep sense of ownership over the ultimate success of your products in the market. You know your metrics and how you are performing against them. You create alignment around critical problems, design solutions, navigate tradeoffs, and break those solutions down into steps the entire organization can execute on.
  • Have a bias for action. You feel urgency to achieve impact. You use data, research, and strong relationships to create focus for your own team and the rest of the organization — aligning resources around areas of high-impact. You are scrappy. You move quickly and that motivates others to keep up with you. You do not measure your success in outputs, but in outcomes.
  • Have the ability to create and orchestrate outcomes across the company. dbt Labs is not a tops-down organization. The leadership team operates with a high degree of transparency, we publish company-wide OKRs, and we have best-in-class data management practices. From there, leaders throughout the org are expected to create clarity and drive toward action.
  • Are a talented people manager. You’ve managed PMM teams of at least 10. You have experience coaching & developing emerging talent & leaders. You create focus for individual members of your team, while building a healthy team dynamic that creates space for all types of people to be successful. You are known for giving frequent and clear feedback to everyone you work with.
  • Are a trusted & admired leader. You operate from a sense of strong personal values. You have personal credibility and integrity and people trust that you will make good decisions. You are recognized as a leader both inside and outside the organizations in which you work. You’ve read the dbt Labs values and find that they align with your own.

You'll have an edge if you have:

  • Experience in developer tooling
  • Experience in the data industry
  • Experience managing fully-remote teams
  • Experience with open source
  • Experience working at fast-growth startups

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $302-430k
  • Equity Stake: Equity stake*
  • Benefits: Unlimited vacation, 401k w/ 3% guaranteed contribution, excellent healthcare, office and cell/internet stipends, and paid parental leave

What to expect in the interview process (all video interviews unless accommodations are needed):

  • Interview with Talent Acquisition Partner
  • Interview with Hiring Manager
  • Interview with Revenue Leader
  • Team Interviews
  • Final interview with one of our Values Carriers

Who we are

At dbt Labs, we have developed strong opinions on how companies should practice analytics.

Specifically, we believe that:

  • Code, not graphical user interfaces, is the best abstraction to express complex analytic logic
  • Data analysts should adopt similar practices and tools to software developers
  • Critical analytics infrastructure should be controlled by its users as open source software
  • Analytic code itself — not just analytics tools — will increasingly be open source

It turns out that a lot of other people believe this too! Today, there are 9,000 companies using dbt every week, 30,000 practitioners in the dbt Community Slack, and 1,800 companies paying for dbt Cloud. Our customers include JetBlue, Hubspot, Vodafone New Zealand, and Dunelm. dbt is synonymous with the practice of analytics engineering, defining an entire industry. We’re backed by top investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and Altimeter. We recently raised our series D: read the announcement here!

dbt Labs is an equal opportunity employer. We're committed to building an inclusive team that welcomes a diversity of perspectives, people, and backgrounds regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability, citizenship, veteran status, or any other protected status. We feel strongly that whether or not your experience exactly fits the job description, your passion and skills will stand out and set you apart even if your career has taken some twists and turns.  If you are on the fence about whether you meet our requirements, we encourage you to apply anyway!
