The Role

* We're open to this role being remote based in Australia (preference in Sydney due to client location) as well as either a in a perm or contract/freelance capacity. 

Our client (big player in the insurance industry) is embarking on a large transformation program of work. Detailed concept studies have recently been carried out. The role will take these concepts and flash them out into detailed end-to-end experiences and deliverables.

Our design team is therefore looking for an exceptional hands-on UX designer to lead the redesign of our flagship app,
while guiding a small team of Interaction Designers and UI designers. The role will collaborate daily with Interaction Design, UI
Design, Content Design, Brand, BA, Solution Architecture, Development, and a team of SMEs.

Expert experience in UX activities such as requirements gathering, journey mapping, workshopping with internal stakeholders,
interaction design, rapid user testing methods, prototyping, and producing artifacts and documentation ready for hand-off to the
UI and then Dev teams are expected.

Deep knowledge in the interaction paradigms and guidelines for native apps is required. Very strong focus on mobile-first design
and knowledgeable about the details of the latest app OSs and both Apple and Android human interface guidelines.
Access to the final users and ability to perform regular user testing is provided.

While the role focuses on hands-on UX Design, experience managing UX and UI designers is required, given that the role is
expected to own and drive the design solution end-to-end. The UX Design Lead is an individual contributor at lead level of
seniority. Must lead UX and be able to lead into the UI Team seamlessly.

Responsibilities 

  • Following direction on processes, tools, deadlines. Regularly reporting progress, presenting to, and accommodating feedback from the Design Chapter Lead.
  • Closely collaborating and driving a team of UX and UI designers, maintaining a positive culture and constructive mindset, educating them where needed. Carrying out daily meetings with the team to gauge progress, regularly conducting design reviews, providing the team with guidance, looking ahead to prevent issues.
  • Contributing to projects in hands on UX Design capability.
  • Foreseeing possible issues, defining and improving the design process, ultimately ensuring that the project stays on track to deliver quality solutions on time.
  • Regularly engage with stakeholders, offer solutions, conduct workshops, present progress to the team, and take feedback onboard from other designers, SMEs, and the final users.
  • Translates the existing concepts into thorough wireframes that lead to intuitive user experiences.
  • Help defining the app’s UX by conducting collaborative workshops, creating flow charts, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and conducting usability testing.
  • Ensuring that our new Design System’s existing components are utilised and standardised, defining new ones where necessary, documenting them, whilst collaborating with Interaction Design/Design System owner
  • Make strategic design decisions related to core and new functions.
  • Identify design problems and devise simple, elegant solutions tailored to our members.
  • Take a user-centred design approach and rapidly test and iterate the solutions with our members on a regular cadence.
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders to extract requirements, design cross-functional solutions, seeking sign-off, and handing them over to the UI team.
  • Stakeholder walkthroughs and presentations.
  • Documenting the solutions with Figma and Confluence where required.
  • Carrying out post-implementation reviews.

Requirements 

  • Minimum of 7 years experience in UX/UI or the design field
  • Experience leading a small design team end-to-end.
  • Strong UX theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
  • Expert in designing native apps. Expert knowledge of the latest iOS and Android
    guidelines, responsive layouts, accessibility.
  • Experience working withing an Agile framework.
  • Expert in Figma/FigJam.
  • Expert stakeholders’ management skills as well as spoken and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with stakeholders and final users to gather detailed requirements and design complete experiences meeting them.
  • Extensive experience in UX and UI design best practices, and a deep understanding of mobile-first and responsive design for native apps.
  • Expert knowledge of user-centred design and testing methodologies, usability, and accessibility.
  • Ability to iterate designs and solutions efficiently.
  • Clearly and effectively communicate design processes, ideas, and solutions to stakeholders and team.
  • A strong understanding of user-centred design.
  • Be excited about collaborating and communicating closely with other teams and other
    stakeholders via a distributed model to regularly deliver design solutions for approval.
  • Deep working knowledge of iOS and Android guidelines (Apple iOS Human Interface
    Guidelines, Google Android Material Design)
